TOPIC: ETA CARINAE - THE 7TH ANGEL OF REVELATION?
The star Eta Carinae is a star in the Southern sky, near the Southern
Cross constellation. In 1843 its brightness increased greatly to magnitude -1,
making it the second brightest star in the sky after
Sirius. It then became
dimmer decreasing to magnitude 6 to 8 until recently when it started climbing in
brightness again, reaching 5th magnitude in June 1999. It appears to be going
through another phase of rapid brightening and is likely to reach magnitude -1
again in the next few years. This is a supermassive star that will one day erupt
as a supernova, and when it does this galaxy will see the biggest bang it has
ever seen. This could happen in 10 years or in a hundred million years, no one
knows when.
This star is relevant to the discussion of the "Southern Cross
effect" (a positive force affecting the Southern Hemisphere since the 1987
Southern Hemisphere supernova exploded, resulting in positive change in the
Southern Hemisphere: democracy and economic improvement in South America, and
positive change in South Africa). This 1987 supernova is brightening again,
because of a collision of gases in space, and should be visible to the unaided
eye by year 2005. So I think this trend will continue, in that hope for the
world will come from the Southern Hemisphere over the next ten years, while the
Northern Hemisphere will see problems-- wars, diseases, natural disasters,
weather changes, giant storms. Eta Carinae could become very bright, and be the
brightest star in the sky, in the next few years. Again, this is another sign of
the "Southern Cross effect", especially since Eta Carinae is very close to the
Southern Cross constellation in the Southern sky.

Eta Carinae (η Carinae or η Car) is a
stellar
system in the
constellation
Carina, about 7,500 to 8,000
light-years
from the Sun. The
system contains at least two stars, one of which is a Luminous Blue Variable
(LBV), which during the early stages of its life had a mass of around 150 solar
masses, of which it has lost at least 30 since. It is thought that a
Wolf-Rayet star of approximately 30 solar masses exists in orbit around its
larger companion star, although an enormous thick red nebula surrounding Eta
Carinae makes it impossible to see optically. Its combined luminosity is about
four million times that of the Sun and has an estimated system mass in excess of
100 solar
masses.[7]
It is not visible north of
latitude 30°N and is
circumpolar south of
latitude 30°S. Because of its mass and the stage of life, it is expected to
explode in a
supernova or even
hypernova
in the astronomically near future.
In traditional
Chinese astronomy, Eta Carinae has the names Tseen She (from the
Chinese 天社 [Mandarin: tiānshè] "Heaven's altar") and Foramen.[8]
It is also known as 海山二 (Hǎi
Shān èr, English: the Second Star of
Sea and Mountain).[9],
referring to
Sea and Mountain, an
asterism
that Eta Carinae forms with
s Carinae,
λ
Centauri and
λ
Muscae.[10]
This stellar system is currently one of the most massive that can be studied
in great detail. Until recently, Eta Carinae was thought to be the most massive
single star, but in 2005 it was realised to be a binary system.[11]
The most massive star in the Eta Carinae multiple star system probably has more
than 100 times the mass of the Sun.[12]
Other known massive stars are
more luminous and
more massive.
Stars in the mass class of Eta Carinae produce more than a million times as
much light as the Sun. They are quite rare — only a few dozen in a galaxy as big
as the Milky
Way. They are assumed to approach (or potentially exceed) the
Eddington limit, i.e., the outward pressure of their radiation is almost
strong enough to counteract gravity. Stars that are more than 120 solar masses
exceed the theoretical Eddington limit, and their gravity is barely strong
enough to hold in their radiation and gas.
Eta Carinae's chief significance for astrophysics is based on its giant
eruption or
supernova impostor event, which was observed around 1843. In a few years,
Eta Carinae produced almost as much visible light as a supernova explosion, but
it survived. Other supernova impostors have been seen in other galaxies, for
example the possible false supernovae
SN 1961v in
NGC 1058[13]
and SN 2006jc
in
UGC 4904,[14]
which produced a false supernova, noted in October 2004. Significantly, SN
2006jc was destroyed in a supernova explosion two years later, observed on
October 9, 2006.[15]
The supernova impostor phenomenon may represent a surface instability[16]
or a failed supernova. Eta Carinae's giant eruption was the prototype for this
phenomenon, and after nearly 170 years the star's internal structure has not
fully recovered.[citation
needed]
One remarkable aspect of Eta Carinae is its changing brightness. It is
currently classified as a
luminous blue
variable (LBV)
binary
star due to peculiarities in its pattern of brightening and dimming.
When Eta Carinae was first catalogued in 1677 by
Edmond Halley, it was of the 4th
magnitude, but by 1730, observers noticed it had brightened considerably and
was, at that point, one of the brightest stars in Carina. Subsequently it dimmed
again and by 1782 it appeared to have reverted to its former obscurity. In 1820,
it was observed to be growing in brightness again. By 1827, it had brightened
more than tenfold and reached its greatest apparent brightness in April 1843.
With a magnitude of −0.8, it was the second brightest star in the night-time sky
(after Sirius
at 8.6 light years away), despite its enormous distance of 7,000–8,000
light years. (To put the relationship in perspective, the relative
brightness would be like comparing a candle (representing Sirius) at 14.5 meters
(48 feet) to another light source (Eta Carinae) about 10 kilometers (6.2 mi)
away, which would appear almost as bright as the candle.)
Eta Carinae sometimes has large outbursts, the last of which appeared in
1841, at around the time of its maximum brightness. The reason for these
outbursts is not known. The most likely explanation is that they are caused by a
build-up of
radiation pressure from the star's enormous
luminosity.[citation
needed] After 1843, Eta Carinae faded and between about
1900 and 1940 it was only 8th magnitude, invisible to the naked eye.[17]
A sudden and unexpected doubling of brightness was observed in 1998–1999. In
2007, at magnitude 5, Eta Carinae could be seen with the naked eye.[2]
In 2008, the formerly clockwork regularity of the dimming was upset.[18]
Following its 5.52-year cycle, the star would normally have started its next
dimming in January 2009, but the pattern was noticed starting early in July 2008
by the southern
Gemini Observatory near
La Serena, Chile. Spectrographic measurements showed an increase in blue
light from superheated
helium, which
was formerly assumed to occur with the wind shock. However, if the cause is a
binary star, it would be located too far away at this point in time for the wind
to interact in so significant a fashion. There is some debate about the cause of
the recent event.[18]
In 2010, astronomers Duane Hamacher and David Frew from Macquarie University
in Sydney showed that the Boorong Aboriginal people of northwestern Victoria,
Australia, witnessed the outburst of Eta Carinae in the 1840s and incorporated
it into their oral traditions as "Collowgulloric War", the wife of "War"
(Canopus, the Crow — pronounced "Waah").[19]
This is the only definitive indigenous record of Eta Carinae's outburst
identified in the literature to date.
In 2011,
light echoes from the 19th century Great Eruption of η Carinae were detected
using the
U.S. National Optical Astronomy Observatory's
Blanco 4-meter telescope at the
Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory. Analysis of the reflected spectra
indicated the light was emitted when η Carinae was a 5000
K G2-to-G5
supergiant, some 2000
K cooler than
other
supernova imposter events.[20]
4U 1037–60 (A 1044–59) is Eta Carinae. Three structures around Eta Carinae
are thought to represent shock waves produced by matter rushing away from the
superstar at supersonic speeds. The temperature of the shock-heated gas ranges
from 60
MK in the central regions to 3 MK on the
horseshoe-shaped outer structure. "The Chandra image contains some puzzles for
existing ideas of how a star can produce such hot and intense X-rays," says
Prof. Kris Davidson of the
University of Minnesota.[21]
A "spectroscopic minimum", or "X-ray eclipse", appeared in
2003. Astronomers organized a large observing campaign which included every
available ground-based (e.g. CCD optical photometry[2])
and space observatory, including major observations with the
Hubble Space Telescope, the
Chandra X-ray Observatory, the
INTEGRAL
Gamma-ray space observatory, and the
Very Large Telescope. Primary goals of these observations were to determine
if, in fact, Eta Carinae is a
binary
star and, if so, to identify its companion star; to determine the physical
mechanism behind the "spectroscopic minima"; and to understand their relation
(if any) to the large-scale eruptions of the 19th century.
There is good agreement between the X-ray light curve and the evolution of a
wind-wind collision zone of a binary system. These results were complemented by
new tests on radio wavelengths.[22]
Spectrographic monitoring of Eta Carinae[23]
showed that some emission lines faded every 5.52 years, and that this period was
stable for decades. The star's radio emission,[24]
along with its X-ray brightness,[25]
also drop precipitously during these "events" as well. These variations, along
with ultra-violet variations, suggest a high probability that Eta Carinae is
actually a binary star in which a hot, lower-mass star revolves around η Carinae
in a 5.52-year, highly eccentric elliptical orbit.[11]
The ionizing radiation emitted by the secondary star in Eta Carinae is the
major radiation source of the system. Much of this radiation is absorbed by the
primary
stellar wind, mainly after it encounters the secondary wind and passes
through a
shock wave. The amount of absorption depends on the compression factor of
the primary wind in the shock wave. The compression factor is limited by the
magnetic pressure in the primary wind.[26]
The variation of the absorption by the post-shock primary wind with orbital
phase changes the ionization structure of the circumbinary gas, and can account
for the radio light curve of Eta Carinae. Fast variations near
periastron passage
are attributed to the onset of the accretion phase.
Because of their disproportionately high luminosities, very large stars such
as Eta Carinae use up their fuel very quickly. Eta Carinae is expected to
explode as a
supernova or
hypernova
some time within the next million years or so. As its current age and
evolutionary path are uncertain, however, it could explode within the next
several millennia or even in the next few years.
LBVs such as Eta Carinae may be a stage in the evolution of the most massive
stars; the prevailing theory now holds that they will exhibit extreme mass loss
and become
Wolf-Rayet stars before they go supernova, if they are unable to hold their
mass to explode as a hypernova.[27]
More recently, another possible Eta Carinae analogue was observed: SN 2006jc,
some 77 million light years away in UGC 4904, in the constellation of Lynx.[28]
Its brightened appearance was noted on 20 October 2004, and was reported by
amateur astronomer Koichi Itagaki as a supernova. However, although it had
indeed exploded, hurling 0.01 solar masses (~20 Jupiters) of material into
space, it had survived, before finally exploding nearly two years later as a Mag
13.8 type Ib supernova, seen on 9 October 2006. Its earlier brightening was a
supernova impostor event.
The similarity between Eta Carinae and SN 2006jc has led Stefan Immler of
NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center to suggest that Eta Carinae could explode in
our lifetime, or even in the next few years. However, Stanford Woosley of the
University of California in Santa Cruz disagrees with Immler’s suggestion, and
says it is likely that Eta Carinae is at an earlier stage of evolution, and that
there are still several stages of nuclear burning to go before the star runs out
of fuel.
In NGC 1260,
a spiral galaxy in the constellation of Perseus some 238 million light years
from earth, another analogue star explosion, supernova
SN 2006gy,
was observed on September 18, 2006. A number of astronomers modelling supernova
events have suggested that the explosion mechanism for SN 2006gy may be very
similar to the fate that awaits Eta Carinae.[citation

Carina constellation is located in the southern sky. Its name means keel
(keel of a ship) in Latin.
Carina used to be part of the much larger constellation Argo Navis, along
with the constellations Puppis (the stern) and Vela (the sails).
Carina contains the second brightest star in the night sky, Canopus, along
with several other notable bright stars, among them Eta Carinae, surrounded by
the famous Carina Nebula. Other famous deep sky objects in the constellation
include the Theta Carinae Cluster (Southern Pleiades), the Wishing Well Cluster,
the Diamond Cluster, and the open cluster NGC 3603.
The constellation Argo Navis was created by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy in
the 2nd century and it was the French astronomer Nicolas Louis de Lacaille who
divided it into the three smaller constellations – Carina, Puppis and Vela – in
the 18th century.

The Eta Carinae Nebula (NGC3372) is a bright cloud in our galaxy the Milky Way,
and the dark cloud in front of part of the Eta Carina Nebula is the Keyhole
Nebula (NGC3324), which is next to the star Eta Carinae, a supermassive star
that could one day become a giant supernova. The Keyhole Nebula, its name
reminds me of the "Keys of hell and of death" in Revelation 1:18. And Eta
Carinae could explode as a giant Supernova and it could then be very bright, by
far the brightest star in the sky, as seen from earth. But more likely it may
become just a very bright star again, and its brightening is a sign of hope,
that hope for the world will come from the Southern Hemisphere over the next ten
years, while the Northern Hemisphere sees major problems. It could be a new Star
of Bethlehem, possibly becoming the brightest star in the sky by year 2015. Note
that it is too far South to be seen in most of the Northern Hemisphere. Its
brightening may represent the positive effects of the Southern Cross effect
spreading across the earth from the Southern Hemispher

Barnes Notes on the Bible
And the seventh angel sounded - See the notes on Revelation 8:2, Revelation
8:6-7. This is the last of the trumpets, implying, of course, that under this
the series of visions was to end, and that this was to introduce the state of
things under which the affairs of the world were to be wound up. The place which
this occupies in the order of time, is when the events pertaining to the
colossal Roman power - the fourth kingdom of Daniel Dan. 2-7 - should have been
completed, and when the reign of the saints Daniel 7:9-14, Daniel 7:27-28 should
have been introduced. This, both in Daniel and in John, is to occur when the
mighty power of the papacy shall have been overthrown at the termination of the
twelve hundred and sixty years of its duration. See the notes on Daniel 7:25. In
both Daniel and John the termination of that persecuting power is the
commencement of the reign of the saints; the downfall of the papacy, the
introduction of the kingdom of God, and its establishment on the earth.
And there were great voices in heaven - As of exultation and praise.
The grand consummation had come, the period so long anticipated and desired when
God should reign on the earth had arrived, and this lays the foundation for joy
and thanksgiving in heaven.
The kingdoms of this world - The modern editions of the New Testament
(see Tittmann and Hahn) read this in the singular number - "The kingdom of
this world has become," etc.
According to this reading, the meaning would be, either that the sole
reign over this world had become that of the Lord Jesus; or, more probably, that
the dominion over the earth had been regarded as one in the sense that Satan had
reigned over it, but had now become the kingdom of God; that is, that the kingdoms of this world are many considered in
themselves; but in reference to the sway of Satan, there is only one kingdom
ruled over by the god of this world";
Prof. Stuart). The sense is
not materially different whichever reading is adopted; though the authority is
in favor of the latter (Wetstein). According to the common reading, the sense
is, that all the kingdoms of the earth, being many in themselves, had been now
brought under the one scepter of Christ; according to the other, the whole world
was regarded as in fact one kingdom - that of Satan - and the scepter had now
passed from his hands into those of the Saviour.
The kingdoms of
our Lord - Or, the kingdom of our Lord, according to the reading adopted in the
previous part of the verse. The word "Lord" here evidently has reference to God
as such
- represented as the original source of authority, and as giving the kingdom to
his Son. See the notes on Daniel 7:13-14; compare Psalm 2:8. The word
"Lord"; - ?????? Kurios - implies the notion of possessor, owner,
sovereign, supreme ruler
- and is thus properly given to God.

Matthew 5:33;
Mark 5:19;
Luke 1:6,
Luke 1:28;
Acts 7:33;
Hebrews 8:2,
James 4:15,
And of his Christ - Of his anointed; of him who is set apart as the
Messiah, and consecrated to this high office. See the notes on Matthew 1:1. He
is called "his Christ,"; because he is set apart by him, or appointed by him to
perform the work appropriate to that office on earth.
Such language as what occurs here is often employed, in which
God and Christ are spoken of as, in some respects, distinct - as sustaining
different offices, and performing different works.
The essential meaning here is, that the kingdom of this world had now become
the kingdom of God under Christ; that is, that that kingdom is administered by
the Son of God.
And he shall reign forever and ever - A kingdom is commenced which
shall never terminate. It is not said that this would be on the earth; but the
essential idea is, that the scepter of the world had now, after so long a time,
come into his hands never more to pass away. The fuller characteristics of this
reign are stated in a subsequent part of this book Revelation 20-22.
What
is here stated is in accordance with all the predictions in the Bible. A time is
to come when, in the proper sense of the term, God is to reign on the earth;
when his kingdom is to be universal; when his laws shall be everywhere
recognized as binding; when all idolatry shall come to an end; and when the
understandings and the hearts of people everywhere shall bow to his authority.

Clarke\s Commentary on the Bible
There were great voices in heaven - All the heavenly host - angels and
redeemed human spirits, joined together to magnify God; that he had utterly
discomfited his enemies and rendered his friends glorious. This will be truly
the case when the kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of God and of his
Christ, But when shall this be? Some say, that is meant by these words has
already taken place in the destruction of the Jewish state, and sending the
Gospel throughout the Gentile world. Others say that it refers to the
millennium, and to the consummation of all things.

Gill\s Exposition of the Entire Bible
And the seventh angel sounded,....
The last of the seven angels, who had trumpets given them to sound, Revelation
8:2.
The days of the voice of this angel, as in Revelation 10:7, cannot refer to the
times of Constantine; for though there was then a strange turn of affairs in
favour of the kingdom of Christ, when there was a great spread of the Gospel,
and large conversions in many places, and many churches were raised and formed
in several countries, and the whole empire became Christian; yet this, as we
have seen, came to pass under the sixth seal, before any of the trumpets were
sounded, and much less this seventh and last; nor do they belong to the times of
the Reformation in Germany.
Brightman fixes the sounding of this trumpet to the
year 1558, when the kings of Sweden and Denmark set up the Gospel in their
kingdoms, and reformed them from Popery; and when Queen Elizabeth came to the
throne of England, and rooted out great part of the Romish superstition: but it
is certain that this angel has not yet sounded his trumpet, and therefore cannot
refer to anything past, but to what is to come; we are yet under the sixth
trumpet; the outward court is not yet given to the Gentiles; the witnesses are
not slain, and much less risen and ascended; the earthquake, the fall of the
tenth part of the city, and the slaughter of seven thousand names of men, with
what will follow thereon, are things yet to come; the Turkish woe is not over,
and antichrist still reigns, and the kingdoms of this world are far from
appearing to be the kingdoms of Christ.
Some think, and indeed the generality of
interpreters, that this respects the voice of the archangel, and trump of God,
the last trump, which will sound at the resurrection of the dead, and the day of
judgment; but none of these appear in the account of things under this trumpet;
but rather the whole has a view to the spiritual reign of Christ, when both the
eastern and western antichrist will be destroyed; the Gospel will be carried all
over the world, and there will be large conversions both among Jews and
Gentiles, and Christ will reign in a spiritual manner over all the earth. Hence
it follows, and there were great voices in heaven; these are either the voices
of the angels in heaven, who rejoice at every appearance, and breaking forth of
Christ\s kingdom and glory, as in Revelation 5:11; and indeed, if they
rejoice at the conversion of one sinner, at a single addition to Christ\s
interest, then much more will they, when the kingdoms of this world become his;
or rather these may be the voices of the multitude of the saints in the
churches, the same company with those in Revelation 19:1; who express their joy
at the judgment of the great whore, and at the marriage of the Lamb; and who, as
here, are attended with the thanksgivings and hallelujahs of the four and twenty
elders: and it may be, that these are also the voices of the four living
creatures, the ministers of the word, since the four and twenty elders generally
follow them, Revelation
4:9; they may be the witnesses, who were silenced, but are now raised up, and
are ascended into heaven, and their mouths are opened, and their voices heard
again:
saying, the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms
of our Lord, and of his Christ; by "the kingdoms of this world" are
meant worldly kingdoms, which are set up by worldly power, and are supported by
worldly policy, and subsist upon worldly principles and maxims; the government
of which proceeds upon worldly ends and views; in distinction from the kingdom
of Christ, which is not of this world, and is not supported by any such methods;
and they are the kingdoms, into which the world is divided, which, and the glory
of them, Satan showed to Christ, and insolently offered to give him them, if he
would worship him; but these were to come to Christ in another way, and at
another time. The Alexandrian copy, and some others, the Complutensian edition,
the Vulgate Latin version, and all the Oriental versions, read in the singular
number, "the kingdom of this world&" the whole government of it, which
is his by right of nature, and will be overturned, and overturned again and
again, till he comes, whose right it is; and then all power, rule, and
authority, will be put down, and his kingdom, which will tilt the face of the
whole earth, will take place:
all the antichristian states and kingdoms are here intended, particularly the
kingdoms into which the Roman empire, sometimes called the whole world, Luke
2:1, is divided, which are ten; one of the ten, a tenth part of the city or
jurisdiction of Rome, will fall at the close of the sixth trumpet, and the other
nine, or the other nine parts, will fall at the sounding of the seventh; the ten
kings, that have given their kingdoms to the beast, will have an aversion to the
whore, hate her, and burn her flesh, will fall off from her, and into the hands
of Christ; there will be a general and thorough reformation from Popery in all
the kingdoms of the Roman empire: but though these are greatly intended, yet not
only they, but the Mahometan nations also, as the Turkish woe will now be over,
and the great river Euphrates dried up, to make way for the kings of the east,
those large kingdoms and countries of China, Tartary, and Persia; and these now
under the power of the Turk will embrace the Christian faith; and also all the
Pagan nations are to be taken into the account, and who will now enjoy the light
of the Gospel: and all, and everyone those Pagan, Papal, and Mahometan kingdoms,
will "become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ"; by
"our Lord"; may be designed God the Father, who is the Lord of the
whole earth, the Lord God Almighty, and is acknowledged as such by angels and
men; and by |;his Christ", his Son Jesus Christ, who is equal with him;
and what belongs to the one belongs to the other; and who, as Mediator, is his
anointed One; anointed to be prophet, priest, and King; anointed with the oil of
gladness, the Holy Ghost; see Psalm
2:2, where the same distinction is. In the Targum on Isaiah 4:2 mention is made
of , "the Messiah" or "Christ of Jehovah" and in the same Targum on Isaiah
53:10, it is said, "they shall look", upon the kingdom of their
Messiah" though it may be rather that Christ is designed by both these
phrases, and the words be rendered, "Lord, even his Christ" since the phrase, "Lord" as well as Christ, is generally understood of
Jesus Christ in the New Testament; and who is Lord of all, of angels, and of
men, and the Christ of God. Now these kingdoms will become his, not merely by
right, for so they are his already, by right of nature, and creation, and
preservation; but these have shaken off his government, and have refused to have
him to reign over them, and have fallen into the hands of usurpers, as Satan,
the god of this world, the Romish antichrist, that reigns over the kings of the
earth, and Mahomet the king of the locusts; but now these will, in fact, come
into his hands, and be under his government; they will acknowledge him as their
Lord and Sovereign, and fear and worship him, as King of saints: and this will
be brought about, not by force of arms, as Mahomet got his dominions; nor by
policy and fraud, by imposture and lying wonders, by which the pope of Rome has
obtained his authority over the nations; but partly by the pouring out of the
vials of God's wrath upon the seat of the beast, and upon the river
Euphrates, that is, both upon the pope and Turk, which will weaken and destroy
their power and authority, and make way for Christ to set up his kingdom; and
partly, and chiefly, by the preaching of the Gospel: now will an open door be
set, which none can shut; many will run to and fro, and knowledge will be
increased; the earth will be covered with it, as the sea with waters; multitudes
of souls everywhere will be converted; a nation will be born at once; churches
will be set up in every place, which are Christ's kingdom, where he reigns,
and where his subjects are, and his laws are put in execution; where his word
will be now faithfully preached, his ordinances purely administered, and he, in
his person, office, and grace, will be alone exalted:
the consequence of which will be, and he shall reign for ever and ever; no
usurper will ever start up more, or obtain, neither Satan, nor the beast, nor
the false prophet, shall ever regain their power and authority any more; neither
Paganism, nor Judaism, nor antichristianism, either Papal or Mahometan, shall
ever have place more: Christ will reign in this spiritual way, more or less,
until he comes personally, and then he will reign with his people on earth a
thousand years; and when they are ended, he will reign with them in heaven to
all eternity; for though, at the end of these years, he shall deliver up the
kingdom to the Father, yet he will not cease to reign; indeed he will not reign
in the same manner, but he will reign with equal power and authority, and over,
and with the same persons. The Vulgate Latin version adds, "Amen"

in Re 10:7 and this is the second part of this chapter, containing a general
history of the Christian Church, from the time of Boniface to the consummation
of the victory declared by voice from heaven. In this history there are three
branches: a preparation by the sound of the angels trumpet: a narration by the
voice of heavenly angels and elders and a confirmation by sign.

(28) The narration has two parts: an acclamation of the heavenly creatures in
this verse, and both an adoration by all the elders in Re 11:16 and also a
thanksgiving in Re 11:17,18. The sense of the acclamation is, Now the Lord has
entered his kingdom and has restored his church in which most mightily recovered
from the profanation of the Gentiles, he may glorify himself. Namely that, which
the Lord ordained when he first ordained his Church, that the faith of the
saints does now behold as accomplished.

People's New Testament
11:15 THE SEVENTH TRUMPET.

And the seventh angel sounded. This is
the seventh trumpet of the seventh seal.
It should bring the end, the final victory, the grand consummation. That is what
the apostle now beholds in the vision.

The kingdoms of this world
are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ. Here is the final
triumph. It is the brightness of Zion's glad morning, the long deferred day
of victory, the ushering in of the conquering reign of Christ. The Agency by
which this conquest is effected is the exaltation of the witnesses, or the
diffusion of the Word of God. This exaltation causes the earthquake, the fall of
a part of the Great City, the destruction of a part of its inhabitants, and the
repentance of the remnant. These events are followed by the seventh trumpet and
the proclamation of the universal reign of Christ. Then the heavenly inhabitants
join in paeans of victory and songs of praise and thanksgiving.

<br

Wesley's Notes
11:15 And the seventh angel sounded - This trumpet contains the most important
and joyful events, and renders all the former trumpets matter of joy to all the
inhabitants of heaven. The allusion therefore in this and all the trumpets is to
those used in festal solemnities. All these seven trumpets were heard in heaven:
perhaps the seventh shall once be heard on earth also, 1Thess 4:16. And there
were great voices - From the several citizens of heaven. At the opening of the
seventh seal there was silence in heaven; at the sounding of the seventh
trumpet, great voices. This alone is sufficient to show that the seven seals and
seven trumpets do not run parallel to each other. As soon as the seventh angel
sounds, the kingdom falls to God and his Christ. This immediately appears in
heaven, and is there celebrated with joyful praise. But on earth several
dreadful occurrences are to appear first.
This trumpet comprises all that
follows from these voices to Rev 22:5. The kingdom of the world - That is, the
royal government over the whole world, and all its kingdoms, Zech 14:9. Is
become the kingdom of the Lord - This province has been in the enemy's
hands: it now returns to its rightful Master. In the Old Testament, from Moses
to Samuel, God himself was the King of his own people. And the same will be in
the New Testament: he will himself reign over the Israel of God. And of his
Christ - This appellation is now first given him, since the introduction of the
book, on the mention of the kingdom devolving upon him, under the seventh
trumpet. Prophets and priests were anointed, but more especially kings: whence
that term, the anointed, is applied only to a king.
Accordingly, whenever the Messiah is mentioned in scripture, his kingdom is
implied. Is become - In reality, all things (and so the kingdom of the world)
are God's in all ages: yet Satan and the present world, with its kings and
lords, are risen against the Lord and against his Anointed. God now puts an end
to this monstrous rebellion, and maintains his right to all things. And this
appears in an entirely new manner, as soon as the seventh angel sounds.
Barnes' Notes on the Bible And the seventh angel sounded - See the notes on
Revelation 8:2, Revelation 8:6-7. This is the last of the trumpets, implying, of
course, that under this the series of visions was to end, and that this was to
introduce the state of things under which the affairs of the world were to be
wound up. The place which this occupies in the order of time, is when the events
pertaining to the colossal Roman power - the fourth kingdom of Daniel Dan. 2-7 -
should have been completed, and when the reign of the saints Daniel 7:9-14,
Daniel 7:27-28 should have been introduced. This, both in Daniel and in John, is
to occur when the mighty power of the papacy shall have been overthrown at the
termination of the twelve hundred and sixty years of its duration. See the notes
on Daniel 7:25. In both Daniel and John the termination of that persecuting
power is the commencement of the reign of the saints; the downfall of the
papacy, the introduction of the kingdom of God, and its establishment on the
earth.
And there were great voices in heaven - As of exultation and praise. The grand
consummation had come, the period so long anticipated and desired when God
should reign on the earth had arrived, and this lays the foundation for joy and
thanksgiving in heaven.
The kingdoms of this world - The modern editions of the New Testament (see
Tittmann and Hahn) read this in the singular number - "The kingdom of this world
has become," etc.
According to this reading, the meaning would be, either that the sole reign over
this world had become that of the Lord Jesus; or, more probably, that the
dominion over the earth had been regarded as one in the sense that Satan had
reigned over it, but had now become the kingdom of God; that is, that "the
kingdoms of this world are many considered in themselves; but in reference to
the sway of Satan, there is only one kingdom ruled over by the 'god of this
world'" (Prof. Stuart). The sense is not materially different whichever reading
is adopted; though the authority is in favor of the latter (Wetstein). According
to the common reading, the sense is, that all the kingdoms of the earth, being
many in themselves, had been now brought under the one scepter of Christ;
according to the other, the whole world was regarded as in fact one kingdom -
that of Satan - and the scepter had now passed from his hands into those of the
Saviour.
The kingdoms of our Lord - Or, the kingdom of our Lord, according to the reading
adopted in the previous part of the verse. The word "Lord" here evidently has
reference to God as such
- represented as the original source of authority, and as giving the kingdom to
his Son. See the notes on Daniel 7:13-14; compare Psalm 2:8. The word "Lord" -
?????? Kurios - implies the notion of possessor, owner, sovereign, supreme ruler
- and is thus properly given to God. See Matthew 1:22; Matthew 5:33; Mark 5:19;
Luke 1:6, Luke 1:28; Acts 7:33; Hebrews 8:2, Hebrews
8:10; James 4:15, al. saepe.
And of his Christ - Of his anointed; of him who is set apart as the Messiah, and
consecrated to this high office. See the notes on Matthew 1:1. He is called "his
Christ," because he is set apart by him, or appointed by him to perform the work
appropriate to that office on earth.
Such language as what occurs here is often employed, in which God and Christ are
spoken of as, in some respects, distinct - as sustaining different offices, and
performing different works.
The essential meaning here is, that the kingdom of this world had now become the
kingdom of God under Christ; that is, that that kingdom is administered by the
Son of God.
And he shall reign forever and ever - A kingdom is commenced which shall never
terminate. It is not said that this would be on the earth; but the essential
idea is, that the scepter of the world had now, after so long a time, come into
his hands never more to pass away. The fuller characteristics of this reign are
stated in a subsequent part of this book Revelation 20-22.
What is here stated is in accordance with all the predictions in the Bible. A
time is to come when, in the proper sense of the term, God is to reign on the
earth; when his kingdom is to be universal; when his laws shall be everywhere
recognized as binding; when all idolatry shall come to an end; and when the
understandings and the hearts of people everywhere shall bow to his authority.
Compare Psalm 2:8; Isaiah 9:7; Isaiah 11:9; Isaiah 45:22; 60; Daniel 2:35,
Daniel 2:44-45; Daniel 7:13-14, Daniel 7:27-28; Zechariah 14:9; Malachi 1:11;
Luke 1:33. On this whole subject, see the very ample illustrations and proofs in
the notes on Daniel 2:44-45; Daniel 7:13-14, Daniel 7:27-28; compare the notes
on Revelation 20-22.

Clarke's Commentary on the Bible There were great voices in heaven - All the
heavenly host - angels and redeemed human spirits, joined together to magnify
God; that he had utterly discomfited his enemies and rendered his friends
glorious. This will be truly the case when the kingdoms of this world become the
kingdoms of God and of his Christ, But when shall this be? Some say, that is
meant by these words has already taken place in the destruction of the Jewish
state, and sending the Gospel throughout the Gentile world. Others say that it
refers to the millennium, and to the consummation of all things.

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible And the seventh angel sounded,.... The
last of the seven angels, who had trumpets given them to sound, Revelation 8:2.
Some think, and indeed the generality of
interpreters, that this respects the voice of the archangel, and trump of God,
the last trump, which will sound at the resurrection of the dead, and the day of
judgment; but none of these appear in the account of things under this trumpet;
but rather the whole has a view to the spiritual reign of Christ, when both the
eastern and western antichrist will be destroyed; the Gospel will be carried all

Gentiles, and Christ will reign in a spiritual manner over all the earth. Hence
it follows, and there were great voices in heaven; these are either the voices
of the angels in heaven, who rejoice at every appearance, and breaking forth of

at the conversion of one sinner, at a single addition to Christ's interest, then
much more will they, when the kingdoms of this world become his; or rather these
may be the voices of the multitude of the saints in the churches, the same
company with those in Revelation 19:1; who express their joy at the judgment of
the great whore, and at the marriage of the Lamb; and who, as here, are attended
with the thanksgivings and hallelujahs of the four and twenty elders: and it may
be, that these are also the voices of the four living creatures, the ministers
of the word, since the four and twenty elders generally follow them, Revelation
4:9; they may be the witnesses, who were silenced, but are now raised up, and
are ascended into heaven, and their mouths are opened, and their voices heard
again:
saying, the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of
his Christ; by "the kingdoms of this world" are meant worldly kingdoms, which
are set up by worldly power, and are supported by worldly policy, and subsist
upon worldly principles and maxims; the government of which proceeds upon

priest, and King; anointed with the oil of gladness, the Holy Ghost; see Psalm
2:2, where the same distinction is. In the Targum on Isaiah 4:2 mention is made
of , "the Messiah"; or "Christ of Jehovah": and in the same Targum on Isaiah
53:10, it is said, "they shall look" , "upon the kingdom of their Messiah";
though it may be rather that Christ is designed by both these phrases, and the
words be rendered, "our Lord, even his Christ"; since the phrase, "our Lord", as
well as Christ, is generally understood of Jesus Christ in the New Testament;
and who is Lord of all, of angels, and of men, and the Christ of God. Now these

voices in heaven, saying, {28} The kingdoms of this world are become the
kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
(27) Of whose sounding the trumpet Christ expressly foretold in Re 10:7 and this
is the second part of this chapter, containing a general history of the
Christian Church, from the time of Boniface to the consummation of the victory
declared by voice from heaven. In this history there are three branches: a
preparation by the sound of the angels trumpet: a narration by the voice of
heavenly angels and elders and a confirmation by sign.

This is the seventh trumpet of the seventh seal.
It should bring the end, the final victory, the grand consummation. That is what
the apostle now beholds in the vision.
The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his
Christ. Here is the final triumph. It is the brightness of Zion's glad morning,
the long deferred day of victory, the ushering in of the conquering reign of
Christ. The Agency by which this conquest is effected is the exaltation of the
witnesses, or the diffusion of the Word of God. This exaltation causes the
earthquake, the fall of a part of the Great City, the destruction of a part of
its inhabitants, and the repentance of the remnant. These events are followed by
the seventh trumpet and the proclamation of the universal reign of Christ. Then
the heavenly inhabitants join in paeans of victory and songs of praise and
thanksgiving.

This trumpet comprises all that follows from these voices to Rev 22:5. The
kingdom of the world - That is, the royal government over the whole world, and
all its kingdoms, Zech 14:9. Is become the kingdom of the Lord - This province
has been in the enemy's hands: it now returns to its rightful Master. In the Old
Testament, from Moses to Samuel, God himself was the King of his own people. And
the same will be in the New Testament: he will himself reign over the Israel of
God. And of his Christ - This appellation is now first given him, since the
introduction of the book, on the mention of the kingdom devolving upon him,
under the seventh trumpet. Prophets and priests were anointed, but more
especially kings: whence that term, the anointed, is applied only to a king.

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary
15. sounded-with his trumpet. Evidently "the LAST trumpet." Six is close to
seven, but does not reach it. The world judgments are complete in six, but by
the fulfilment of seven the world kingdoms become Christ's. Six is the number of
the world given over to judgment. It is half of twelve, the Church's number, as
three and a half is half of seven, the divine number for completeness. Bengel
thinks the angel here to have been Gabriel, which name is compounded of El, God,
and Geber, MIGHTY MAN (Re 10:1). Gabriel therefore appropriately announced to
Mary the advent of the mighty God-man: compare the account of the man- child's
birth which follows (Re 12:1-6), to which this forms the transition though the
seventh trumpet in time is subsequent, being the consummation of the historical
episode, the twelfth and thirteen chapters. The seventh trumpet, like the
seventh seal and seventh vial, being the consummation, is accompanied
differently from the preceding six: not the consequences which follow on earth,
but those IN HEAVEN, are set before us, the great voices and thanksgiving of the
twenty-four elders in heaven, as the half-hour's silence in heaven at the
seventh seal, and the voice out of the temple in heaven, "It is done," at the
seventh vial. This is parallel to Da 2:44, "The God of heaven shall set up a
kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to
other people, but it shall break to pieces all these kingdoms, and it shall
stand for ever." It is the setting up of Heaven's sovereignty over the earth
visibly, which, when invisibly exercised, was rejected by the earthly rulers
heretofore. The distinction of worldly and spiritual shall then cease. There
will be no beast in opposition to the woman. Poetry, art, science, and social
life will be at once worldly and Christian.
kingdoms-A, B, C, and Vulgate read the singular, "The kingdom (sovereignty) of
(over) the world is our Lord's and His Christ's." There is no good authority for
English Version reading.
The kingdoms of the world give way to the kingdom of (over) the world exercised
by Christ.
The earth-kingdoms are many: His shall be one. The appellation "Christ," the
Anointed, is here, where His kingdom is mentioned appropriately for the first
time used in Revelation. For it is equivalent to King. Though priests and
prophets also were anointed, yet this term is peculiarly applied to Him as King,
insomuch that "the Lord's anointed" is His title as King, in places where He is
distinguished from the priests. The glorified Son of man shall rule mankind by
His transfigured Church in heaven, and by His people Israel on earth: Israel
shall be the priestly mediator of blessings to the whole world, realizing them
first.
he-not emphatic in the Greek.
shall reign for ever and ever-Greek, "unto the ages of the ages." Here begins
the millennial reign, the consummation of "the mystery of God" (Re 10:7).

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary
11:14-19 Before the sounding of the seventh and last trumpet, there is the usual
demand of attention. The saints and angels in heaven know the right of our God
and Saviour to rule over all the world. But the nations met God's wrath with
their own anger. It was a time in which he was beginning to reward his people's
faithful services, and sufferings; and their enemies fretted against God, and so
increased their guilt, and hastened their destruction. By the opening the temple
of God in heaven, may be meant, that there was a more free communication between
heaven and earth; prayer and praises more freely and frequently going up, graces
and blessings plentifully coming down. But it rather seems to refer to the
church of God on earth. In the reign of antichrist, God's law was laid aside,
and made void by traditions and decrees; the Scriptures were locked up from the
people, but now they are brought to the view of all. This, like the ark, is a
token of the presence of God returned to his people, and his favour toward them
in Jesus Christ, as the Propitiation for their sins. The great blessing of the
Reformation was attended with very awful providences; as by terrible things in
righteousness God answered the prayers presented in his holy temple now opened.

TOPIC: ETA CARINAE - THE 7TH ANGEL OF REVELATION?
Sam Blomfield)
In the 1840′s one of the thousands of stars that made up the
night sky transformed itself from an unassuming speck to the second
brightest star in the sky. This was the result of an immense outburst dubbed
the “Great Eruption” and despite it’s light reaching earth some 170 years
ago, scientists are getting another chance to view this event as its reaches
Earth yet again.
Eta Carinae is a star system found roughly 8,000 light years from our
sun. Until 2005 it was believed to be a single star system but scientists at
NASA, using the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer satellite found that
the massive star had a smaller companion star. Eta Carinae is thought to be
one of the heaviest star systems in our galaxy, with a mass 150 times that
of our sun. Not only is the star system one of the heaviest, but it is also
one of the brightest.
Although Eta Carinae is one of the brightest stars in our milky way, it
is not currently one of the brightest stars in our night sky. Surprisingly,
roughly 170 years ago this massive star stood out as the second brightest
star in the sky for almost 20 years, fascinating the scientists of the time.
Due to the technological limitations of the time the spectacle yielded
little scientific information to those attempting to study it.
This immense rise in brightness was a result of what was named “The Great
Eruption”. Lasting 20 years the star system shed near 10 solar masses (1
solar mass = the weight of our sun) and released near 10% of the energy
given off by a core-collapse supernovae, despite the star system remaining
intact.
But despite ‘The Great Eruption’ taking place so long ago scientists are
again getting a chance to study the event from Earth. “Everything
astronomers have known to date about Eta Carinae’s outburst is from
eyewitness accounts. Modern observations with science instruments were made
years after the eruption actually happened. It’s as if nature has left
behind a surveillance tape of the event, which we are now just beginning to
watch. We can trace it year by year to see how the outburst changed.”

Baltimore.
