TOPIC:  GAMES, FROGS, AND EGYPT WORLD TOUR

2-29-12 -  FIVE DREAMS -  GAMES, FROGS, AND WORLD TOUR

#1 -  I was watching group of men on what I thought was a baseball field and when the man threw the ball  to someone else across the field, he started hopping backwards and one by one the other men joined him, holding onto the shoulders of the man in front of him, all jumping backwards - and I started counting how man men there were.  When I got to  24, I decided to wake up because I knew that line of men was never going to end.

#2 -  I heard someone talking and telling someone else that they had seen 24 men hopping backwards in a line.

#3 -  I was in my diningroom getting ready for guests and I started seeing frogs hopping across the carpet in lines on the edges of the room.  They were very heavy, gross, and brown and green and seemed furry.

#4 -  Again I was in the diningroom of my house, getting ready for guests, and I started seeing bright green frogs hopping through the carpet.  I didn't know how to get rid of them.

I went out into the yard, and I saw what I thought was a thread of a spider web going across the yard and decided I would pull it down, but when I pulled on it, it was as strong as a rope.  Then, when I looked closer, I could see four of those thread across the yard from south to north, and they were too strong for me to pull down.  Then on closer inspection, I saw four more of those threads going east to west across the whole yard, along side the house and beyond.  I didn't know how to get rid of them. But then I saw little tiny spider webs hanging in the air everywhere - but those weren't attached to anything and those I could get rid of by sweeping my hand through the air to get rid of them.

#5 -  I was work, and I saw my boss start to type a paper about Egypt.  I interrupted him, and told him that my family had a book of photographs of Egypt that were 4 x 6 feet and were so clear, we were thinking of doing a world tour with them.

Some other men came into the room and started talking about doing a world tour about Egypt and I knew I could bring in my photographs and share them with them for a world tour.

3-25-12 -  I OWN FRITO-LAY, A BLUE PARROT, AND A SMALL VOLCANO

I

I Was crossing a very busy intersection where five roads came together in the middle of the city.  I was going t work at a convention center on the other side of the street.

I had to dodge several big trucks and busses on the way,, but finally made it just as the large Frito-Lay truck was making its delivery.

I was on the sidewalk next to the driveway, talking with a woman, and the black driver of the truck said, "It sure is nice having Dolores with us."

I

I smiled at him, and aid to the woman,"  Is he talking about me?"  and she said, "I doubt it!"  and we went on with our conversation for another moment.

I went inside where I was in charge of some restaurant where we served water and I had to make sure the glasses were spotlessly clean.  I made a comment to that same woman,  I hope they do a better job on the water glasses than they do on toilets around here.

A few moments went by as I inspected water glasses, and then another young woman came along who managed an open truck which was parked at the curb.

On this truck she cared for people['s birds while people went bowling and didn't want to leave their birds at home.  she took care of huge parrots on her truck.   A man was there who went to conventions and took his parrot with him.  He aid he considered going to conventions his vacation where he could have fun and relax tool.  So he went bowling in his free time and the girl took care of his bird

I admired the girl for doing this service and I ended up buying a huge bird encyclopedia from her.

Just then, a small volcano I had purchased from her exploded and splatted brown gunk all over the snow where we were standing and almost got all over my shoes.  It had just been smoking a moment prior to that.  We laughed at that because it just barely missed my shoes.

Just then I heard crying over aways, and I looked and my young boy child was wearing a black snowsuit and boots and he had fallen when he tripped in the snow.  Instead of just standing there and bawling, he demonstrated to me what had happened, and fell again.

We had to laugh before I rescued him.  He was so cute.

INTERPRETATIOON:?   LET US START WITH THE FROGS:

Let me preface this with same news I heard on the radio today:  3-9-12 - that scientifically, frogs come out of the ground in masses right before an earthquake.   We had several earthquakes about 75 miles from our home just a few days ago.  I can't say that was connected to the frog dreams, but we should be lookiing for a mass of frogs to come out of the earth before the event - whatever is coming.

FROG - denotes an impaired mental or physical condition. In Revelations 16:13, the frog is seen as uncleanliness as the spirits of evil. It could represent unintelligent and ugly speech. However, to a young boy, dreaming of frogs could show an interest in the study of nature to better understand life. Exodus 8:3 shows frogs as a plague upon one's house

BRIGHT GREEN FROGS are poisonous.

I have written about plagues before:

"The number ELEVEN is associated usually with DISORDER AND JUDGMENT all through the Bible. ELEVEN is one more than TEN. Number TEN represents the law and RESPONSIBILITY. A broken Law and Responsibility always brings JUDGMENT and DISORDER. This number ELEVEN is used 24 times in the Word of God.

There were ELEVEN JUDGMENTS upon the Egyptians. Those are as follows:

1. The plague of Blood. (Ex. 7:19-21)
2. The plague of Frogs. (Ex. 8:1-7)
3. The plague of Lice. ( Ex. 8:16-17)
4. The plague of Flies. (Ex. 21-24)
5. The plague of Murrain. (Ex. 9:1-7)
6. The plague of Boils. (Ex. 9:8-11)
7. The plague of Hail. (Ex. 9:22-25)
8. The plague of Locusts. (Ex. 10:12-25)
9. The plague of Darkness. (Ex. 10-21-23)
10. The plague of First-born. (Ex. 12:29-30)
11. The overthrow at the Red Sea. (Ex. 14:24-28)

See: REVELATION - THE EIGHTH GATE AND THE BOWLS OF PLAGUE ALSO SEE: http://www.greatdreams.com/chems.htm. ... me. (Revelation

Israel was delivered from the JUDGMENT that fell upon the first-born of the Egyptians by the blood of the Passover lamb. That was the TENTH JUDGMENT. TEN represents the LAW, the TESTIMONY. This pictures deliverance from the condemnation of the LAW when faith is exercised in the blood of Christ. This represents the salvation of the soul. But after the soul is saved there is still the question of security. This is pictured by the protection of the Israelites from the Egyptian army by the pillar of cloud and fire which stood between them.

"The angel of God which went before the camp of Israel removed and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went before their face; and stood behind them: and it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel: and it was a cloud of darkness to them: but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night." (Ex.14:19-20)

This shows a picture of the eternal security of God's children. Among the seventeen things that Paul said should not separate God's children from his love he mentions principalities and powers.

In addition to the salvation of the soul and its eternal security there is the salvation of the body, which will take place at the resurrection of the body. This was pictured by Israel's passage of the Red Sea. It was here that the ELEVENTH judgment upon Canaan, a son of Ham, because Ham saw his father's nakedness when he was uncovered in his tent. Noah said,

"Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants he be unto his brethren." (Gen. 9:20-25)

In Genesis 10:15-18 it says that Canaan had ELEVEN sons.

"And Canaan begat (1) Sidon his first-born, and (2) Heth, and the (3) Jubusite, and the (4) Amorite, and the (5) Girgasite, and the (6) Hivite, and the (7) Arkite, and the (8) Sinite, and the (9) Arvadite, and the (10) Zemarite, and the (11) Hamathite; and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad."

This should answer those who claim that God had nothing to do with the curse pronounced upon Canaan.

In Jeremiah 52:1 it is said that Zedekiah reigned ELEVEN years in Jerusalem. He was a wicked king.
"And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord." (verse 2) In Verse 5 Jerusalem was besieged by the king of Babylon until the ELEVENTH year of Zedekiah's reign. Then Zedekiah was captured and taken to Babylon, and JUDGMENT.

At Kadesh, sometimes called Kadesh-Barnea, the children of Israel brought JUDGMENT upon themselves by refusing to go up and possess the promised land after the twelve spies had returned. They were condemned to wander in the wilderness until forty years were over, and until all who were 20 years old and upward when they had been numbered had died, with the exception of Joshua and Caleb. (Numbers 13:25 to 14:31). Now read Deuteronomy 1:2:

The Seven Bowls

Rev: 15:5 After these things I looked, and the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened.

Rev: 15:6 The seven angels who had the seven plagues came out, clothed with pure, bright linen, and wearing golden sashes around their breasts.

Rev: 15:7 One of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God, who lives forever and ever.

Rev: 15:8 The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power. No one was able to enter into the temple, until the seven plagues of the seven angels would be finished.

John continued to look with the opened eyes of his spirit he saw seven angels and each one of them received a bowl. These bowls present the last woes upon the earth, so is said. The plagues of these bowls are therefore the final miseries of man's history in its present rebellious state.

Rev: 16:2, the first bowl. The earth is hit, man is plagued by a malignant tumour. It could well be that the enormous increase of all kinds of cancers is the realization of the outpouring of this first bowl.

Rev: 16:3, the second bowl. The sea is hit. The contents of the bowl make the waters like 'blood of a dead a dead man.' The waters changes to a dark red colour. The pollution is obviously fatal for all the creatures in the seas. We are now living in the days according to scientists that even the oceans are getting more and more polluted and the fish population is threatened.

Rev: 16:4, the third bowl. The rivers and watersources are hit, something like the blood is thrown into the water and they become also polluted and look like blood. Just remember that already now the watersupply for the population of this planet becomes a problem and scientists are studying what must be done to secure enough fresh water in the future.

Rev: 16:8, the fourth bowl. The sun became too hot, its rays cause devastating heat. People can obviously not stay in direct sunlight. This problem is emerging also in these days as the ozone layer makes the sunlight dangerous and hotter.

Rev: 16:10, the fifth bowl. The centre of mankind's evil government is hit. There is darkness and there is terrible pain caused by sores. They cursed God for their torments and did not consider repentance. It is no secret that because of chemical and nuclear pollutions diseases with sores and tumours increase.

Rev: 16:12, the sixth bowl. The river Euphrates dried up. The Euphrates was the border of the Roman Empire in the time of John. Beyond this river there lived peoples, that were from time to time a real threat to the stability of the Empire. John sees how the river, the natural border of this North-eastern region of the empire, dried up and through this the whole stability of the empire is endangered. The access of enemies has become easy. Just think how easy it is today by use of the modern weapons - there are hardly any natural borders left - to destabilize nations and indeed the whole global community.

The distrust between nations and the great antagonism between peoples causing wars is generated and fed by spiritual powers of evil, wickedness and uncleanness, represented here as frogs. Eventually they will combine all powers against the people, who keep the faith in the Great Creator.

Rev: 16:17-21, the seventh bowl. Now comes the final plague. There is a great release of power, all forces come in action. There is a great earthquake, the biggest in the history of this planet. The pride of human achievement, the great city, falls into three pieces, indicating that she is fatally destroyed. Big hailstones are falling from the sky and everywhere are earthquakes, causing islands to disappear in the sea. Could it be that the earth is hit by a comet, a meteorite? Scientists are sure that the earth was once hit by a gigantic comet, causing all prehistoric animals to die. They say it could happen again, but nobody knows when.

The Plagues of the Seven Bowls

Revelation 16

1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.

5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.

6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,

11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

Exodus 8:6 "And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt."

SPECIAL NOTE:  there is a connection between the plagues and egypt.  see exodus 8:6.

however, thrre is another connection in the book of revelation:

New International Version (©1984)
Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

New Living Translation (©2007)
And I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs leap from the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet.

English Standard Version (©2001)
And I saw, coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs.

Revelation 16 - The Bowl Judgments

A. Bowls directed against natural phenomenon.

1. (1) A voice from the temple.

Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth.”

a. Since no one could enter the temple (Revelation 15:8), this loud voice from the temple must be God Himself, who personally initiates the horrific judgment of the bowls.

b. Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth: These bowls of judgment are the third woe described in Revelation 11:14. Because they are described as the wrath of God, Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth chastisements (with the purpose of bringing repentance) as much as punishments (with the purpose of dispensing justice).

i. As such, we usually think of these as occurring at the end of the seven-year period, immediately before Jesus’ return.

c. Images from Israel’s Exodus are prominent in the bowl judgments. In the days of Moses, God sent plagues upon Egypt that included plagues of boils (Exodus 9:8-12), waters turning to blood (Exodus 7:14-25), and darkness (Exodus 10:21-29).

d. Are the plagues described in this chapter symbolic? Perhaps we can’t envision all that these words mean. However, God’s judgment of this world will not be a symbolic judgment. We can remember that the reality behind a symbol is always more real - and in this case therefore more terrifying - than the symbol itself.

e. On the earth: Those who believe that the Book of Revelation is all fulfilled in history have a hard time with this. In Poole’s commentary, his suggestions on what earth might mean show how difficult it is to make sense of Revelation this way.

· He says earth might mean some parts of the earth

· He says earth might mean the common people

· He says earth might mean The Roman Empire

· He says earth might mean The Roman Catholic clergy

i. The point is clear. If earth doesn’t mean earth, then no one can tell what it means, and God may as well not have written it.

2. (2) The first bowl: foul and loathsome sores.

So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image.

a. A foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast: Those who worshipped the beast and received his mark are now “marked” by God with loathsome sores.

3. (3) The second bowl: the sea turned to blood.

Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living creature in the sea died.

a. The sea . . . became blood: Revelation 8:8-9 described a partial contamination of the sea. Here the contamination is made complete (every living creature in the sea died).

b. Blood as of a dead man: The sea doesn’t necessarily become blood, but as of a corpse’s blood. It will match the appearance and sickening character of the blood in a dead body.

4. (4) The third bowl: fresh waters polluted.

Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood.

a. The rivers and springs of water, and they became blood: This complete contamination is in contrast to the partial (one-third) pollution of fresh waters shown in Revelation 8:10-11.

b. When these judgments come, the time must be very short until the return of Jesus. With ecological disaster such as this, the human race cannot survive long.

i. “They thirsted after blood and massacred the saints of God; and now they have got blood to drink!” (Clarke)

5. (5-7) The righteousness of God’s judgments.

And I heard the angel of the waters saying: “You are righteous, O Lord, the One who is and who was and who is to be, because You have judged these things. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due.” And I heard another from the altar saying, “Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.”

a. You are righteous . . . For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink: It is completely fitting that those who delighted in shedding the blood of the saints should now be forced to drink “blood.” They have refused the Living Water, and now will be given the water of death.

b. Even in the midst of judgment, it is right that the angel declares You are righteous, O Lord. Not only is God’s justice fair, it is also pure and appropriate. There is no “vigilante justice” with God.

c. I heard another from the altar saying: This voice is either an angel speaking from the altar, or the altar personified, representing the corporate testimony of the martyrs (Revelation 6:9) and the prayers of the saints (Revelation 8:3-5).

i. This “speaking altar” may be God’s altar - the cross, where His greatest sacrifice was made, and which here testifies of His righteous judgment, both in the past and soon to come. This is altar where God in His love offered a way of escape from these judgments.

6. (8-9) The fourth bowl: the sun scorches men.

Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory.

a. The sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire: What is normally taken for granted as a blessing - the warmth of the shining sun - is now a curse.

b. They did not repent and give Him glory: The failure of men to respond with repentance shows that knowledge or experience of judgment will not change man’s sinful condition. Those who are not won by grace will never be won.

i. “The wishful thinking of some that men would repent if they only knew the power and righteous judgment of God is shattered by frequent mention in this chapter of the hardness of the human heart in the face of the most stringent and evident divine discipline.” (Walvoord)

B. Bowls directed against the beast and his government.

1. (10-11) Fifth bowl: a plague of darkness.

Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.

a. His kingdom became full of darkness: Some see this as a symbolic darkness. Caird calls the last three plagues a “triad of political disaster” - internal anarchy, invasion, and irreparable collapse.

i. But it isn’t necessary to see this darkness as a symbolic political darkness. The ninth plague on Egypt was a literal darkness, with spiritual overtones. It could be felt, as described in Exodus 10:21-22.

b. They gnawed their tongues because of the pain: The darkness of the fifth bowl is a preview of Hell itself, which is described by Jesus as the outer darkness (Matthew 25:30). Those under the judgment of this fifth bowl stand, as it were, on the shores of the lake of fire.

i. In the late 1600’s Matthew Poole wrote a commentary on the Bible. It’s interesting to read his take on this passage: “When this shall be God alone knows. I think, and experience hath proved, that they were much too hasty in their speculations, that prophesied it should be in the year 1656, or 1660, or 1666. For my own part, I do not believe it will be before 1866, or betwixt that and the year 1900.”

c. And did not repent of their deeds: In man’s sinful condition, he increases his sin when under God’s judgment, the very time he should forsake his sin.

i. “Judgment may produce a carnal repentance - a repentance that is of the flesh, and after the manner of the sinful nature of men. In this repentance the depravity of the heart remains the same in essence, though it takes another form of showing itself. Though the man changes, he is not savingly changed: he becomes another man, but not a new man. The same sin rules in him, but it is called by another name, and wears another dress. The stone is carved into a more sightly shape, but it is not turned into flesh. The iron is cast into another image, but it is not transformed into gold. This carnal repentance is caused by fear. Does not every thief repent of robbery when he is convicted and sent to jail? Does not every murderer repent of his crime when he stands under the fatal tree?” (Spurgeon)

ii. “This is real penitence, when the man gives glory to the justice of God, even though it condemns him. O my hearer, do you thus repent? Is sin really sinful to you? Do you see its desert of hell? If not, your repentance needs to be repented of.” (Spurgeon)

2. (12-16) The sixth bowl: armies are gathered for a great battle.

Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.” And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.

a. The great river Euphrates: The Romans considered the Euphrates River a secure barrier against invasion from the empires of the east. In that day it was 1,800 miles long and anywhere from 300-1200 yards wide.

b. Its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared: If the Euphrates were dried up and made a road, massive armies from the east (nations such as China, India, and Japan) could move westward with ease.

i. Why do these armies come? Is it to wipe out Israel? Is it to rebel against a European-based world leader (the Antichrist)? Ultimately, they come to do battle against God and His Messiah (Psalm 2).

c. I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon: The spirits are like frogs in form. The ancient Jewish people regarded frogs as unclean and repulsive, but the Egyptians revered a frog-goddess.

i. “We can only explain the similitude from the uncleanness, and the pertinacious noise, of the frog.” (Alford)

ii. “Christ expelled unclean spirits, but His enemies send them forth.” (Swete)

iii. The frogs are “a devastating caricature of the failure of evil. That which men fear most because it appears to be mighty and eternally entrenched becomes at long last only a ridiculous spawning of sickly creatures of the night.” (Love)

iv. These demons are like the “lying spirit” who led Ahab into battle (1 Kings 22:19-23).

d. They are spirits of demons, performing signs: Again, signs and wonders are used by demons as tools of deception. The false prophet here is the second beast of Revelation 13.

e. Gather them to the battle: This battle is not nation against nation, but the nations against God (Psalm 2:2). This is one of three important battles mentioned in prophecy.

i. The battle of Gog, Magog and her allies come against Israel (Ezekiel 38 and 39).

ii. The battle of Armageddon, when the Antichrist leads the world system against a returning Jesus (Revelation 17:12-16, 17:14, 19:19).

iii. The final battle, when Satan and his allies, after the millennium, make war against God (Revelation 20:7-10).

f. That great day of God Almighty: The winner of this battle is apparent. It is the great day of God, not the great day of man, not the great day of the Antichrist, not the great day of the dragon.

g. Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame: In the midst of the description of the coming battle, there is a warning to be prepared in light of Jesus’ assured victory.

i. Garments are pictures of spiritual and practical righteousness. We are given the righteousness of Jesus as a garment (Galatians 3:27), but we are also called to “put on” the nature of Jesus in terms of practical holiness (Ephesians 4:20-24). Above all, we must not be “naked” - that is, without a covering, or trying to provide our own covering like Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:7), which is like filthy rags in the sight of God (Isaiah 64:6).

h. And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon: This great battle happens at a place called Armageddon (Har-Megiddo).

i. Those who believe the Book of Revelation is all fulfilled in history have a hard time with this battle. “Some say it is the great Valley of the Mississippi. A few years ago some said it was Sebastopol, or the Crimea. Others think it is France. Whilst many take it as a mere ideal place, for an ideal assemblage, having no existence in fact. To such wild, contradictory, and mutually destructive notions are men driven once they depart from the letter of what is written.” (Seiss)

ii. Since there is no specific mount (Har) Megiddo (Megiddo is actually a valley), many see this as a symbolic mountain or hill of slaughter. But Seiss makes a good point: “Whether we take it as the mount or the valley, it makes no difference, for the mount and the valley are counted as one, each belonging to the other.”

iii. Megiddo is in a region frequently associated with decisive battles: Deborah over Sisera (Judges 5:19); Gideon over the Midianites (Judges 7); Pharaoh over Josiah (2 Kings 23:29; 2 Chronicles 35:22). It is also a place of end-times mourning (Zechariah 12:11).

iv. The vast Valley of Megiddo has seen tremendous battles through the centuries. Over 200 battles have been fought in the region, from 1468 b.c. (with Pharaoh Tuthmosis III) to 1917 (with Lord Allenby of the British).

v. It is best to see the place as literal, as the region of Megiddo and the valley of Esdraelon. Revelation 16:14, 17:14 and 19:19 described an organized battle that must center somewhere, even if it extends much further.

vi. “But what is the battle of Armageddon? How ridiculous have been the conjectures of men relative to this point! Within the last twenty years this battle has been fought at various places, according to our purblind seers and self-inspired prophets! At one time it was Austerlitz, at another Moscow, at another Leipsic, and now Waterloo! And thus they have gone on, and will go on, confounding and being confounded.” (Clarke)

3. (17-21) The seventh bowl: the final judgments.

Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.

a. It is done: This announcement, coming from the throne itself tells us that there will be no more delay. In mercy, God has stretched out this scene as much has He could. The seals were followed by trumpets; the trumpets were followed by bowls; but there will be no more judgments upon the earth after this - it is done.

b. Poured out his bowl into the air: The fact that the bowl is poured into the air may show judgment against the prince of the power of the air (Ephesians 2:2) and his allies.

c. There was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth: In these final judgments, God shakes the earth with a tremendous earthquake. The same is promises in Hebrews 12:26: Now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” Yet, what cannot be shaken will remain.

d. Great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath: The fall of Babylon (the great city) is more explicitly described in Revelation 17 and 18. Here, it is enough to say that God gives her the cup of the wine of the fierceness (the ancient Greek word thymos, describing a passionate outburst of anger) of His wrath (the ancient Greek word orge, describing a standing state of anger).

i. “The combination of thymos and orge connotes the strongest kind of outpouring of divine judgment.” (Walvoord)

e. Great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent: Giant hailstones fall, weighing up to 100 pounds. Men respond in utter, unrepentant depravity (men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail).

i. Hail is frequently a tool of judgment against God’s enemies, as seen against Egypt (Exodus 9:24), the Canaanites (Joshua 10:11), apostate Israel (Isaiah 28:2), and Gog and Magog (Ezekiel 38:22).

ii. In each of these instances, hail rained down from heaven as a tool of judgment, not as a corrective chastisement of God’s own children.

iii. Despite all their suffering, many still will not repent. “I have known people say, ‘Well, if I were afflicted I might be converted. If I lay sick I might be saved.’ Oh, do not think so. Sickness and sorrow of themselves are no helps to salvation. Pain and poverty are not evangelists; disease and despair are not apostles. Look at the lost in hell. Suffering has effected no good in them. He that was filthy here is filthy there. He that was unjust in this life is unjust in the life to come. There is nothing in pain and suffering that, by their own natural operation, will tend to purification.” (Spurgeon)

4. We might say that Revelation 16 is a “great” chapter.

a. It describes great evil: a great city, great Babylon (Revelation 16:19).

b. It describes great tools of judgment: great heat (Revelation 16:9), a great river dried up (Revelation 16:12), a great earthquake (Revelation 16:18), great hail and great plagues (Revelation 16:21).

c. It describes a great God: His great voice (loud is the same Greek word for great; verses 1; 17), and His great day of victory (Revelation 16:14).

Egypt's Mubarak to be transferred to prison hospital

Egypt's Interior Minister has ordered Tora prison hospital in Cairo to make preparations to receive ex-president Hosni Mubarak, reports the Associated Press. The former leader, ousted by a popular uprising a year ago, is being held in a military hospital, while standing trial on murder and corruption charges. Officials said there is no set date for the move, as the hospital in Tora prison needs upgrading to house the former leader. The move would be a concession to protesters who complain that Mubarak is being been given special treatment by the Military Council, which has been running the country since Mubarak's government had to step down. Some 50 loyalists of Mubarak's regime held at Tora prison, including the ex-president's two sons, would be dispersed to five different jails in the Cairo area, officials added.

The Plagues of Egypt (Hebrew: מכות מצרים, Makot Mitzrayim), also called the Ten Plagues (Hebrew: עשר: המכות, Eser Ha-Makot) or the Biblical Plagues, were ten calamities that, according to the biblical Book of Exodus, Israel's God, Yahweh, inflicted upon Egypt to persuade Pharaoh to release the ill-treated Israelites from slavery. Pharaoh capitulated after the tenth plague, triggering the Exodus of the Jewish people. The plagues were designed to contrast the power of Yahweh with the impotence of Egypt's various gods.[1] Some commentators have associated several of the plagues with judgment on specific gods associated with the Nile, fertility and natural phenomena.[2] According to the Book of Exodus, God proclaims that all the gods of Egypt will be judged through the tenth and final plague:

On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn — both men and animals —and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD
— Exodus 12:12 (New International Version)

The Plagues of Egypt are believed to be historical by many Jews and Christians. They are also briefly mentioned in the Quran (7,133–136).[3]

The plagues as they appear in the Bible are:[4]

  1. Water, which turned to blood and killed all fish and other aquatic life (Exodus 7:14–25)
  2. Frogs (Exodus 8:1–8:15)
  3. Lice (Exodus 8:16–19)
  4. Flies or [5] wild animals (Exodus 8:20–30)
  5. Disease on livestock (Exodus 9:1–7)
  6. Unhealable boils (Exodus 9:8–12)
  7. Hail and thunder (Exodus 9:13–35)
  8. Locusts (Exodus 10:1–20)
  9. Darkness (Exodus 10:21–29)
  10. Death of the first-born of all Egyptian humans and animals. To be saved, the Israelites had to place the blood of a lamb on their door.(Exodus 11, Exodus 12)

The first three plagues seemed to affect "all the land of Egypt,"[6] while the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 9th did not affect the children of Israel.[7] Conditions of the 8th plague are unclear. For the last plague the Torah indicates that they were only spared from the final plague by sacrificing the Paschal lamb, marking their doorpost with the lamb's blood, and eating the roasted sacrifice together with Matzot (לחם עוני) in a celebratory feast. The Torah describes the angel of death as actually passing through Egypt to kill all firstborn children, but passing over (hence "Passover") houses which have the sign of lambs' blood on the doorpost.[8][9] The night of this plague, Pharaoh finally relents and sends the Israelites away under their terms.

After the Israelites leave en masse, a departure known as The Exodus, Yahweh introduces himself by name and makes an exclusive covenant with the Israelites on the basis of this miraculous deliverance.[10] The Ten Commandments encapsulate the terms of this covenant.[11] Joshua, the successor to Moses, reminds the people of their deliverance through the plagues.[12] According to 1 Samuel, the Philistines also knew of the plagues and feared their Author.[13][14] Later, the psalmist sang of these events.[15]

The Torah[16] also relates God's instructions to Moses that the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt must be celebrated early on the holiday of Passover ("Pesach" פסח); the rituals observed on Passover recall the events surrounding the exodus from Egypt. The Torah additionally cites God's sparing of the Israelite firstborn as a rationale for the commandment of the redemption of the firstborn.[17] This event is also commemorated by the fast of the firstborn on the day preceding Passover but which is traditionally not observed because a siyum celebration is held which obviates the need for a fast.

It seems that the celebration of Passover waned from time to time, since other biblical books provide references to revival of the holiday.[18] For example, it was reinstated by Joshua at Gilgal,[19] by Josiah,[20] by Hezekiah[21] and, after the return from the captivity, by Ezra.[22] By the time of the Second Temple it was firmly established in Israel.

[edit] Context

The reason for the plagues appears to be twofold:[23] to answer Pharaoh's taunt, “Who is Yahweh, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go?”[24] and to indelibly impress the Israelites with Yahweh's power as an object lesson for all time, which was also meant to become known “throughout the world”.[25][26]

According to the Torah, God hardened Pharaoh's heart so he would be strong enough to persist in his unwillingness to release the people, so that God could manifest his great power and cause it to be declared among the nations,[27] so that other people would discuss it for generations afterward.[28] In this view, the plagues were punishment for the Egyptians' long abuse of the Israelites, as well as proof that the gods of Egypt were powerless by comparison.[29] If God triumphed over the gods of Egypt, a world power at that time, then the people of God would be strengthened in their faith, although they were a small people, and would not be tempted to follow the deities that God put to shame. Exodus portrays Yahweh explaining why he did not accomplish the freedom of the Israelites immediately:

I could have stretched forth My hand and stricken you [Pharaoh] and your people with pestilence, and you would have been effaced from the earth. Nevertheless I have spared you for this purpose: in order to show you My power and in order that My fame may resound throughout the world.
— Exodus 9:15-16 (JPS)

[edit] Plagues

The following is a summary of the Biblical account of the plagues which is found in chapters 7–12 of Exodus.

[edit] Beginning of the curses: Ex. 5:1–9, 7:8–13

Moses and Aaron approached the Pharaoh, and to deliver God's demand that the Israelite slaves be allowed to leave Egypt so that they could worship God freely. After an initial refusal by the Pharaoh, God sent Moses and Aaron back to show him a miraculous sign of warning – Aaron's rod turned into a serpent. Pharaoh's sorcerers also turned their staffs into snakes, but Aaron's then proceeded to swallow theirs before turning back into a staff.

[edit] 1. Plague of blood (דָם): Ex. 7:14–25

This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD: With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood. The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink and thus the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.
— Exodus 7:17–18

The first plague was blood. God instructed Moses to tell Aaron to raise his rod over the river Nile; all of its water turned into blood. As a result of the blood, the fish of the Nile died, filling Egypt with an awful stench. Other water resources used by the Egyptians were turned to blood as well (7:19). Pharaoh's sorcerers demonstrated that they too could turn water into blood, and Pharaoh therefore made no concession to Moses' demands.

[edit] 2. Plague of frogs (צְּפַרְדֵּעַ): Ex. 7:25–8:11

This is what the great LORD says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. If you refuse to let them go, I will plague your whole country with frogs. The Nile will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and on your people, and into your ovens and kneading troughs. The frogs will go up on you and your people and all your officials.
— Exodus 8:1–4

The second plague of Egypt was frogs. God commanded Moses to tell Aaron to stretch the staff over the water, and hordes of frogs came and overran Egypt. Pharaoh's sorcerers were also able to duplicate this plague with their magic. However, since they were unable to remove it, Pharaoh was forced to grant permission for the Israelites to leave so that Moses would agree to remove the frogs. To prove that the plague was actually a divine punishment, Moses let Pharaoh choose the time that it would end. Pharaoh chose the following day, and all the frogs died the next day. Nevertheless, Pharaoh rescinded his permission, and the Israelites stayed in Egypt.

[edit] 3. Plague of lice or gnats (כִּנִּים): Ex. 8:12–15

Then the LORD said […] "Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt." […] When Aaron stretched out his hand with the staff and struck the dust of the ground, gnats came upon men and animals. All the dust throughout the land of Egypt became lice.
— Exodus 8:16–17

The third plague of Egypt was lice. The Hebrew noun could be translated as lice, gnats, or fleas.[30] God instructed Moses to tell Aaron to take the staff and strike at the dust, which turned into a mass of lice that the Egyptians could not get rid of. The Egyptian sorcerers declared that this act was "the finger of God" since they were unable to reproduce its effects with their magic.

[edit] 4. Plague of flies or wild animals (עָרוֹב): Ex. 8:20–32

This is what the LORD says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. If you do not let my people go, I will send swarms of flies upon you and your officials, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be full of flies, and even the ground where they are.
— Exodus 8:20–21

The fourth plague of Egypt was of animals capable of harming people and livestock. The Torah emphasizes that the arov ("mixture" or "swarm") only came against the Egyptians, and that it did not affect the Land of Goshen (where the Israelites lived). Pharaoh asked Moses to remove this plague and promised to allow the Israelites' freedom. However, after the plague was gone, Pharaoh "hardened his heart" and again refused to keep his promise.

The word עָרוֹב has caused a difference of opinion among traditional interpreters.[5] The root meaning is related to "mixing".[31] While most traditional interpreters understand the plague as "wild animals",[32] Gesenius along with many modern interpreters understand the plague as a swarm of flies.[33]

[edit] 5. Plague of pestilence (דֶּבֶר): Ex. 9:1–7

This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: "Let my people go, so that they may worship me." If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back, the hand of the LORD will bring a terrible plague on your livestock in the field—on your horses and donkeys and camels and on your cattle and sheep and goats.
— Exodus 9:1–3

The fifth plague of Egypt was an epidemic disease which exterminated the Egyptian livestock; that is, horses, donkeys, camels, cattle, sheep and goats. The Israelites' cattle were unharmed. Once again, Pharaoh made no concessions.

[edit] 6. Plague of boils (שְׁחִין): Ex. 9:8–12

The sixth plague of Egypt was shkhin. The Shkhin was a kind of skin disease, usually translated as "boils". God commanded Moses and Aaron to each take two handfuls of soot from a furnace, which Moses scattered skyward in Pharaoh's presence. The soot induced festering Shkhin eruptions on Egyptian men and livestock. The Egyptian sorcerers were afflicted along with everyone else, and were unable to heal themselves, much less the rest of Egypt.

[edit] 7. Plague of hail (בָּרָד): Ex. 9:13–35

This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me, or this time I will send the full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth. For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. You still set yourself against my people and will not let them go. Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now. Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every man and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die. […] The LORD sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt; hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation.
— Exodus 9:13–24

The seventh plague of Egypt was a destructive storm. God commanded Moses to stretch his staff skyward, at which point the storm commenced. It was even more evidently supernatural than the previous plagues, a powerful shower of hail intermixed with fire. The storm heavily damaged Egyptian orchards and crops, as well as people and livestock. The storm struck all of Egypt except for the Land of Goshen. Pharaoh asked Moses to remove this plague and promised to allow the Israelites to worship God in the desert, saying "This time I have sinned; God is righteous, I and my people are wicked." As a show of God's mastery over the world, the hail stopped as soon as Moses began praying to God. However, after the storm ceased, Pharaoh again "hardened his heart" and refused to keep his promise.

[edit] 8. Plague of locusts (אַרְבֶּה): Ex. 10:1–20

This is what the LORD,the God of the Hebrews, says: 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me. If you refuse to let them go, I will bring locusts into your country tomorrow. They will cover the face of the ground so that it cannot be seen. They will devour what little you have left after the hail, including every tree that is growing in your fields. They will fill your houses and those of all your officials and all the Egyptians—something neither your fathers nor your forefathers have ever seen from the day they settled in this land till now.
— Exodus 10:3–6

It began day 1 of the Hebrew Month of Shevat: The eighth plague of Egypt was locusts. Before the plague, God informed Moses that from that point on He would "harden Pharaoh's heart," (as promised earlier in 4:21) so that Pharaoh would not give in, and the remaining miracles (the final plagues and the splitting of the sea) would play out.

As with previous plagues, Moses came to Pharaoh and warned him of the impending plague of locusts. Pharaoh's officials begged him to let the Israelites go rather than suffer the devastating effects of a locust-swarm, but he was still unwilling to give in. He proposed a compromise: the Israelite men would be allowed to go, while women, children and livestock would remain in Egypt. Moses repeated God's demand that every last person and animal should go, but Pharaoh refused.

God then had Moses stretch his staff over Egypt, and a wind picked up from the east. The wind continued until the following day, when it brought a locust swarm. The swarm covered the sky, casting a shadow over Egypt. It consumed all the remaining Egyptian crops, leaving no tree or plant standing. Pharaoh again asked Moses to remove this plague and promised to allow all the Israelites to worship God in the desert. As promised, God sent a wind that blew the locusts into the Red Sea. However, he also hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not allow the Israelites to leave.

[edit] 9. Plague of darkness (חוֹשֶך): Ex. 10:21–29

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that darkness will spread over Egypt—darkness that can be felt." So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and total darkness covered all Egypt for three days. No one could see anyone else or leave his place for three days.
— Exodus 10:21–23

In the ninth plague, God commanded Moses to stretch his hands up to the sky, to bring darkness upon Egypt. This darkness was so heavy that an Egyptian could physically feel it.[dubious ][citation needed] It lasted for three days, during which time there was light in the homes of the Israelites. Pharaoh then called to Moses and offered to let all the Israelites leave, if only the darkness would be removed from his land. However, he required that their sheep and cattle stay. Moses refused, and went on to say that before long, Pharaoh himself would offer to provide animals for sacrifice. Pharaoh, enraged, then threatened to execute Moses if he should again appear before Pharaoh. Moses replied that he would indeed not visit the Pharaoh again.

This plague was an attack aimed directly at Pharaoh's god Ra, the Egyptian sun god. By introducing the plague of darkness, Moses attempted to demonstrate the clear power of Yahweh; and the folly of worshipping the Egyptian Gods.

[edit] 10. Death of the firstborn (מַכַּת בְּכוֹרוֹת): Ex. 11:1–12:36

This is what the LORD says: 'About midnight I will go throughout Egypt. Every firstborn in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn of the slave girl, who is at her hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle as well. There will be loud wailing throughout Egypt—worse than there has ever been or ever will be again.'
— Exodus 11:4–6

Before this final plague, God commanded Moses to inform all the Israelites to mark lamb's blood on the doorposts on every door in which case the LORD will pass over them and not "suffer the destroyer to come into your houses and smite you" (chapter 12, v. 23), thus sparing all the Israelite first-borns. This was the hardest blow upon Egypt and the plague that finally convinced Pharaoh to submit, and let the Israelites go.

After this, Pharaoh, furious, saddened, and afraid that he would be killed next, ordered the Israelites to go away, taking whatever they wanted. The Israelites did not hesitate, believing that soon Pharaoh would once again change his mind, which he did; and at the end of that night Moses led them out of Egypt with "arms upraised".[34]

[edit] Scholarly interpretation

The story of the plagues is heavily reliant on the Deuteronomistic history and the prophetic books of Amos, Isaiah and Ezekiel, suggesting that it was composed in 6th century BCE at the earliest. The book of Deuteronomy, in which Moses reviews the events of the past, mentions the "diseases of Egypt" (Deuteronomy 7:15 and 28:60), but means something that afflicted the Israelites, not the Egyptians; in fact it never mentions the plagues of the book of Exodus. The Exodus plagues are divine judgements, a series of curses like those in Deuteronomy 28:15-68, which mention many of the same afflictions; they are even closer to the curses in the Holiness code, Leviticus 26, since like the Holiness Code they leave room for repentance. The theme that divine punishment should lead to repentance comes from the prophets (Amos 4:6-12, Ezekiel 20), and the form of prophetic speech, "Thus says Yahweh", and the figure of the prophet as divine messenger, are from the late prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel and the Deuteronomistic history (all compositions of the 6th century). The theme of Pharaoh's obstinacy is likewise derived from the 6th century prophets - Isaiah 6:9-13, Jeremiah 5:3, and Ezekiel 3:7-9.[35]

[edit] Historicity

This article needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (July 2011)

Mainstream historians assert that the plague stories are mythical, allegorical, and inspired by passed-down accounts of disconnected natural disasters. Religiously inspired historians have speculated on a possible series of natural disasters behind the story of the succession of plagues.

[edit] Archaeology

There is archaeological material that some Christian archaeologists, such as William F. Albright, have considered historical evidence of the Ten Plagues; for example, an ancient water-trough found in El Arish bears hieroglyphic markings detailing a period of darkness. Albright, and other Christian archaeologists have claimed that such evidence, as well as careful study of the areas ostensibly traveled by the Israelites after the Exodus, make discounting the biblical account untenable. The Egyptian Ipuwer papyrus describes a series of calamities befalling Egypt, including a river turned to blood, men behaving as wild ibises, and the land generally turned upside down. However, this is usually thought to describe a general and long term ecological disaster lasting for a period of decades, such as that which destroyed the Old Kingdom. The document is usually dated to the end of the Middle Kingdom, or more rarely, to its beginning, fitting the Old Kingdom destruction, but in both cases long before the usual theorized dates for the Exodus.

[edit] Natural explanations

Historians have suggested that the plagues are passed-down accounts of disconnected natural disasters. Natural explanations have been suggested for most of the phenomena:

santorini

Today we find an article about the Santorini caldera. Some researchers believe Santorini is linked to the legend of Atlantis.
Santorini: The ground is moving again in paradise PhysOrg - March 13, 2012
Santorini is a tourist magnet, famous for its breathtaking, cliff side views and sunsets. It's also a volcanic island that has been relatively calm since its last eruption in 1950. Until now. The Santorini caldera is awake again and rapidly deforming at levels never seen before. After decades of little activity, a series of earthquakes and deformation began within the Santorini caldera instruments on the northern part of the island have moved laterally between five and nine centimeters. The volcano's magma chamber is filling, and we are keeping a close eye on its activity.

Santorini caldera is a large, mostly submerged caldera, located in the southern Aegean Sea, 120 kilometers north of Crete in Greece. Visible above water is the circular Santorini island group, consisting of Santorini (aka Thera), the main island, Therasia and Aspronisi at the periphery, and the Kameni islands at the center.
"Atlantis" Eruption Twice as Big as Previously Believed, Study Suggests National Geographic
Santorini - Atlantis Google Images
Location hypotheses of Atlantis Wikipedia
Archaeological, seismological, and vulcanological evidence has been presented linking the Atlantis myth to Santorini. Speculation suggesting that Thera/Santorini was the inspiration for Plato's Atlantis began with the excavation of Akrotiri in the 1960s, and gained increased currency as reconstructions of the island's pre-eruption shape and landscape frescos located under the ash both strongly resembled Plato's description. The possibility has been more recently popularized by television documentaries such as: The History Channel programme Lost Worlds (episode "Atlantis"), the Discovery Channel's Solving History with Olly Steeds, and the BBC's Atlantis, The Evidence that suggests that Thera is Plato's Atlantis.

A volcanic eruption which happened in antiquity and could have caused some of the plagues if it occurred at the right time (The exodus as recorded in the Bible took place in 1446 BC) is the eruption of the Thera volcano 1,050 kilometres (650 mi) to the northwest of Egypt. Controversially dated to about 1628 BC, this eruption is one of the largest on record, rivaling that of Tambora, which resulted in 1816's Year Without a Summer. The enormous global impact of this eruption has been recorded in an ash layer deposit found in the Nile delta, tree ring frost scars in the bristlecone pines of the western United States, and a coating of ash in the Greenland ice caps, all dated to the same time and with the same chemical fingerprint as the ash from Thera.

However, all estimates of the date of this eruption are hundreds of years before the Exodus is believed to have taken place; thus the eruption can only have caused some of the plagues if one or other of the dates is wrong, or if the plagues did not actually immediately precede the Exodus.

Following the assumption that at least some of the details are accurately reported, many modern Jews believe that some of the plagues were indeed natural disasters, but argue for the fact that, since they followed one another with such uncommon rapidity, "God's hand was behind them". Indeed, several Biblical commentators (Nachmanides and, more recently, Rabbi Yaakov Kamenetzky) have pointed out that, for the plagues to be a real test of faith, they had to contain an element leading to religious doubt.

In his book The Plagues of Egypt: Archaeology, History, and Science Look at the Bible, Siro Igino Trevisanato explores the theory that the plagues were initially caused by the Santorini eruption in Greece. His hypothesis considers a two-stage eruption over a time of a bit less than two years. His studies place the first eruption in 1602 BC, when volcanic ash taints the Nile, causing the first plague and forming a catalyst for many of the subsequent plagues. In 1600 BC, the plume of a Santorini eruption caused the ninth plague, the days of darkness. Trevisanato hypothesizes that the Egyptians (at that time under the occupation of Hyksos), resorted to human sacrifice in an attempt to appease the gods, for they had viewed the ninth plague as a precursor to more. This human sacrifice became known as the tenth plague.[37]

In an article published in 1996, physician-epidemiologist John S. Marr and co-author Curt Malloy integrated biblical, historical and Egyptological sources with modern scientific conjectures in a comprehensive review of natural explanations for the ten plagues, postulating their own specific explanations for the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and tenth plagues. Their explanation also accounted for the apparent selectiveness of the plagues, as implied in the Bible. The paper served as the basis for a widely acclaimed website and for a documentary aired on the Learning Channel from 1998 to 2005.[38]

45 PROPHECIES
ON THE END OF THE MILLENNIUM

This page is part of an alert. Many people know the famous quatrain of Nostradamus which says "1999, seven months..." but there are many other prophecies mentioning "1999" or texts such as "not far from 2000" or "near the end of 20th century" etc. These prophecies were collected from different books, mainly translated from French and Italian. They mention things such as chemical bombs, huge floods and the disappearing of countries, although they were written centuries ago.

These are the events which can be noted on the prophecies:

1) Sibyl of Prague, an old woman (17th century)

"From the east a dragon will come, terrible to look at, because from its 9 times 99 eyes (1999?), mortal rays will be emitted and a poisonous air (produced by chemical bombs) leaves its mouth".

2) Alois Irlmaier (1894-1959) was a simple Christian man who lived in Freilassing, Germany. During his life, he did several prophecies correctly, helping the police to discover criminals, telling if the soldiers would return alive or not from the Second World War, helping in the diagnosis of the ill etc. He spoke on the third war, and according to him, it would begin anywhere exactly after the murder of a big one near the Arabs and a murder in the Balcans.

"I see three nines, but I don't know what this mean" - 1999.

3) In the book Liber Vaticinationem Quodam, written near the year 350, it is read about a war that will begin at the end of this millennium and will go through the beginning of the next century:

"The third millennium is the moment of the third great war. France is destroyed; the earth shakes...."

4) The German Monk called Black Spider, who lived some centuries ago:

"1999: the Resurrection of Caim - The barbarians will invade the cities and the civilized people will go to the forest...."

5) The prophecy below is said to be old, but it seems there is not a reference to her before 1915.

" (...) the whole earth is full of turbulence and dissatisfaction. The leaders use their vast powers to dominate more and the crowd in fight is unfolded as a serpent in the search of its prey. They capture the neighboring nations and they waste its forces to destroy each other. The victorious ones are without energy to commemorate (...) because the last half of hour is constituted by the most terrible period of the earth history (...) and when arrive the last fifteen minutes of the last moment (...) the yellow crowds from the Rising Sun (Japan) and the white crowds of the kingdom in the middle (Iraq and/or Russia) gave the hands (...) and behold, they empty their terrible anger on the inhabitants of the kingdom of the island (England), which is swollen with victory and excess produced by trade through the sea and earth. (...)"

If one century is considered above as one day (with 24 hours), then one hour will be equal to 4,1666 years or about 4 years. The last quart of hour means, therefore, the last year of the millennium - 1999 or 2000.

6) Among the apparitions still without decision of the Church, there are many announcing wars. In 1958, Turcovka, old Czechoslovakia, the forest guard Matousch Laschut saw before his eyes seven boards moving with small prophetic texts, besides Maria's apparition. The second board said:

"If the people don't convert, great calamities will come to the people and whole groups. Many will die."

He didn't want to reveal what he saw in all the boards, but he said:

"If the world doesn't change before the year 2000, it will be destroyed by its own crime".

Before 2000 means until 1999.

7) The following prophecy was found at the end of the 19th century in the library of Monastery Neamt, in Romania. It is supposed that the prophecy was written in the 14th century.

"Unknown diseases and plagues will accompany the end of the Millennium, because the last beast will liberate gold and poison... and the gold will produce despair, while the poison will produce death. In the time of the seventh seal, the earth will be an abandoned factory of poisons. And the few wise men that will remain, will not be able to make another thing but to invoke the anger of God, so that the impious beast which will have destroyed the life be destroyed".

8) Maria Laach, German religious woman, who did several prophecies in the 16th century:

"The 20th century will bring death and destruction, apostasy of the Church, discord in the families, cities and governments; it will be the century of three great wars with intervals of some decades. They will turn more devastating and bloody and they will leave in ruins not only Germany, but all the countries of the Est and West. (...) After a great defeat of Germany, a great war will come. There won't be bread for the people and food for animals. Poisonous clouds, created by human hands, will lower and will exterminate everything. The human mind will be taken by madness."

9) At his time, Stormberger was well-known for his prophecies. Several Austrian specialists of prophecies from the area of Bavaria documented his prophecies, but the books containing his writings were condemned by the Nazists and were burned, because they foresaw Hitler's defeat, who was interested in prophecies. But fragments telling that he foresaw the invention of cars, trains and airplanes survived. He said with precision the day that the First World War would begin, its duration, the weapons. He predicted the Great Depression in 1929, the Third Reich, the Second World War, the Swastika, the defeat and the division of Germany etc. He also said that there would be three world wars in the 20th century:

"Two or three decades after the first war it will come one a Second War still larger. Almost all the nations of the world will be involved. Millions of men will die, without being soldiers. The fire will fall from the sky and many great cities will be destroyed. And after the end of the Second Great War, a third universal conflagration will come, so that it will determine everything. There will be weapons totally new. In one day, more men will die than in all the previous wars. The battles will be accomplished with artificial weapons (chemical bombs). Gigantic catastrophes will happen. With the open eyes, the nations of the planet will go through these catastrophes. They won't know what is happening, and those that know and tell, will be silenced. Everything will be different from before, and in many places the Earth will be a great cemetery. The third war will be the end of many nations".

10) German Monk, Ludwig Heinrich, who lived in the 17th century:

"In the last years of the 20th century, one will see the disappearing of countless animal species, killed by man. But at the end, it will be the man that it will condemn the man to the death, because everything that grows on the earth will contain the essence of the death. The air will be the blow of the death, and as soon as the man breathe it, he will breathe the death ". (chemical weapons)

"As soon as the millennium touches its end, it will rain from the sky one pestilence never saw before on the earth. And this pestilence will remove all the force from the man; and the man won't be able more to fight, even against the worm that crawls on the earth". (chemical weapons)

11) It is believed that the following prophecy, found in Monastery of Sainte Claire, Perpignan, in France, is from the 14th century. It was attributed by some to Abbot Reymond. The text is divided in five parts, each part prophesying about a century of the last five of the millennium. Here is a text from the last part:

"For stranger than the last times may seem, the last century of the millennium will overcome all the others. It will be similar to one car that moves with difficulty, guided by unable and servants of Satan. In that period of terror, there will be great spiritual poverty. (...) Many kings will lose the throne and some kings will recover the throne. A war will begin. (first war). After, another war comes. (second war) and so another war. (third war) From the sky the hell will fall. In the anguish of a bad life, the man will finish poisoning everything. (chemical bombs) Poisoned clouds will cover the earth. Monstrous machines will dominate the skies. (planes with bombs) The fire will destroy many cities. The men will finish destroying each other ".

12) German medieval prophecy:

"Actually you will be happy, and after the darkness it will be seen the light, because before the year 2000, the Beast and the Prostitute will be thrown in the abyss. Never again they will leave there and the Sign of the Cross will shine in the glory of the light, with one faith and one shepherd. Oh! Oh! Where the rivers Rhine and Mosela meet, a very bloody battle will be joined against the Turks (Muslims) and Russians, so that the Rhine will blush for 25 leagues".

13) Parts from the following prophecy, coming from the Cloister of Mariental, in Magonza, Germany, found in the beginning of the 19th century, happened accurately. It speaks on the First and Second world war, on the coming of the Nazism and the division and reunification on the Germany. About the future, it is said:

"They will be only eighteen days. But they will be eighteen thorns for the whole world. They will enter in the men's flesh, in a time that not too far from the 2000".

14) Prophecy of Staretz, Russian origin, appeared near 1850:

"The last century of the millennium is a mountain, on which three beasts (wars) sleep. The first one will wake up in the beginning of the road (century). And from its throat will go out blood. The Second will wake up in the middle of the road. And from its throat it will come fire. The third will wake up at the end of the road. And from its throat will come the horrible heresy".

15) Prophecy of Saint Anastacy, found at the end of the 16th century in a Monastery in Moscow.

"The small nations (Arabs?) form a great nation. And they will be in wars. In the final part of the millennium, an invisible serpent will shake the people, which will move through the earth, as starving wolves, spreading hunger and plagues. Rome and Moscow will fall in the deepest disorder. The end of the millennium will see a lot of violence and blood. (...) The walls of the churches will be spotted with blood".

16) The Ladino Prophecy, a Italian seer of the 18th century:

"Attention to 1999! The sea is crazy. Many lands will tremble. One deep plow will pass in the lands of the world. The Great Serpent will be born in the East. When the millennium arrives its end, the Christians will be equally pagans. The only faith will be on the money and on the power; the mistake, the corruption and the violence will thriumph".

17) The Russian Monk Rasputin, who did prophecies fulfilled - on his murder, on the Russian Revolution etc. said:

"Mankind is going in the direction of the catastrophe. The less able ones will be guiding the car. This will happen in Russia, in France, in Italy and in other places. The humanity will be squashed by the lunatics' roar. The wisdom will be chained. The ignorant and the prepotent will dictate the laws to the wise and to the humble person. So, most of the humanity will believe in the powerful ones and not more in God. The punishment of God will arrive late, but it will be tremendous. And it will arrive before our century ends. Then, finally the wisdom will be free from the chains and the man will return entirely to God, as the baby who goes to his mother. In this way, mankind will arrive on the terrestrial paradise".

18) Saint Anselm, Bishop of Sunium (13th century)

"You will be ruined, city of seven hills (Rome), when the letter K will be praised in your walls (Karol Woytilla, the Pope Jean Paul II). Then, your fall will be near. (...) And you, man of big beard (the Muslim leader), you will lose it and you will lose your value in the whole world, for having presided the death of the Pontiff called John Obi ". (John Paul is the only Pope that adopted two names. Bis is two in Latin).

19) Sister Elena Leonardi Aiello, Italian nun (20th century, already passed)

In her revelations, the Sister predicted some facts confirmed, as the defeat of Italy in Second World War. She said in 1960 that "Russia, with secret weapons, will fight against United States, will conquer Europe and the river Rhine in Germany will be full of cadavers". She also said that "Russia will invade Europe and, especially in Italy, will cause ruin and destruction".

"When an extraordinary sign appear in the sky, the men they should know that is near the punishment of the world. Many signs will come on the world to advise the men that they have already passed the limits. Russia will march over all the nations of Europe and will place its flag over Saint Peter in Rome. What a pain! The governments don't understand, because they do not possess the true Christian spirit, they open the doors to the materialism". (April of 1976)

20) The quatrain X.72 of Nostradamus, one of the world most famous persons from the 16th century:

Quatrain X.72

"L'an mil neuf cent nonante neuf sept mois,
Du ciel viendra um grand Roy d'effrayeur
Ressusciter le grand Roy d'Angoulmois
Avant après Mars regner par bonheur."

In 1999, seven months, from the sky will come a great frightning king. The great king of Angoulmois is revived. Before and after (July of 1999), there is war.

21) The apparitions of Our Lady in Amsterdam known as Our Lady of All Peoples from March 1945 to May 1959 to a Dutch girl did prophecies fulfilled, such as the end of the second world war few months before the end etc. She said clearly that a world war will break out and the Church of Rome will fall in problems before the year 2000:

"A great conflict will happen - United States, Russia... the time is not far." (February of 1950)

Seventh vision - February 7th, 1946

"Look at Europe. Warn the european people."
"Europe must be careful. Forewarn the people of Europe. Look well and listen: East against West. Europe, pay attention."
"New calamities will fall over the planet."
"People from Europe, get united!".

22) Benjamín Solari Parravicini was an Argentinian catholic man who died near 20 years ago. He heard words and wrote down them, many times without knowing their meaning. Some of his sentences, already fulfilled:

"The atomic times are approaching. Russia is already playing with it without knowing. The war of the wars will arrive." (1937)
"The heart of the world (Paris) will fall and it will be in 40. It will fall and will be German until 44". (1938)
"The heart will be artificial in 66" (1938 - The artificial heart was created in 1966.)
"A new system of communication in the world thanks to artificial planets" (1938, on satellites)
"Artificial Maternity"(1938)

On the 1999 war:

"The souls will wander in 99."

He was sure that a conflict initially focused in the Middle East would cause a larger war envolving Europe, with the participation of the yellow race.

23) Merlin, who would have lived in the time of King Arthur, near 5th and 7th centuries, said:

"Before the christianism has 2000 years, the east will inflamate and many people will die. There will be a Pope (Jean Paul II) who will not dare to remain in Rome."

24) In Saint Nicolas chapel, in the city of Popovka, near Taganrog and the sea of Azov, a prophecy of a monk called Pouskof, dating from the 15th century:

"At the end of the 20th century, Russia will see great disorders. The houses, people and lands will be transformed by blood. We will see terrible things through pictures (TV). What is above will go down. (conversion). What is below will return to the high".

25) Prophecy of a Sister of Queen Brigite Order, Rome (published in the 70s)

"The third world war will begin few days after a murder of a leader in the sector of Yoguslavia-Hungria".

26) The German magazine Neues Europa published in 1963 what it said to be the third part of the secret of the apparition at Fatima, Portugal in 1917. The message explains that a "the great war will come in the second part of the 20th century. The fire and the smoke will fall from the sky and the waters from the oceans will become vapour, projecting its scum up to sky and destroying everything below.
