Note: There is no conclusive evidence that Thomas Henry b.
1719 and William Henry, Sr. ("Crowders Creek" William Henry) are brothers.
At least one researcher claims Thomas is the brother of "Henry's Knob"
William Henry of York Co., SC. I have seen no conclusive proof of either
scenario., though Thomas Henry and Henry's Knob William Henry appear to
have received land grants in different locations on the same day (Oct 24,
1765) in what was at the time Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina. However,
the proximity of the graves of Thomas and Isabella Henry and their
children to those of Moses Henry's descendants at Goshen Presbyterian
Chruch Cemetery and reference to a Thomas Henry as a brother of William,
Jr. in the bible register recorded by Emmaline Minor Henry support the
idea of Thomas's relationship to this William Henry. I have chosen not to
connect these Henrys until more evidence is
found.
Marriage 1
Isabella
b: Abt 1728
- Note: The children listed here are assumed to be the
children of Thomas and Isabella Henry. Some sources suggest that Thomas
Henry married Martha Shields in Mecklenburg Co., NC in 1764, and still
other sources have referred to the bride as Martha Isabella Shields. If
this is correct, then this marriage was probably the second for both
Thomas and Isabella, a possibility supported by a grouping of children
born beginning with Robert Henry in 1765 and continuing into the
mid-1770s, when Thomas was in his 50s and Isabella was in her 40s. The
possibility certainly exists that Thomas had (during an earlier
marriage) another household in the area of Beatty's Ford (one possible
child being James Henry, b. abt. 1755, who married Dorcas Henry and had
sons named Thomas and William).

E. Hardy. Asheville, N. C.
My Dear Sir and Kind Friend; I
send you the MS of my father, ROBERT HENRY. He was born in Tryon (now
Lincoln) county, N. C. in a roll pen, 10th February, 1765; was a lawyer
and surveyor by profession; was one of the first settlers in Buncombe
county; taught School on Swannanoa, the first school taught in Buncombe
county. He died in Clay county, N. C. February 6th, 1863; wanting but
four days of being 98 years old. THOMAS HENRY, his father, died soon
after the Revolution, of rheumatism contracted during the war. THOMAS
HENRY was from the North of Ireland. I do not want this manuscript
lost, as you see it is in ROBERT HENRY'S own hand, and a little relic.
If not used, I should like it should be returned
to.
Respectfully, WM. L. HENRY ASHEVILLE, Buncombe
County, N. C.
