MINNIE MOUSE & MICKEY MOUSE THE DREAMS AND THE SYMBOLISM RELATIONSHIP TO CROP CIRCLES compiled by Dee Finney |
Mickey Mouse - Vernham Dean, Hampshire 2 August 1997 |
Biography of Walt Disney
Walt Disney was quoted on many topics of entertainment, his life and career. Heres a sampling from the new Disney Editions book, The Quotable Walt Disney, compiled by Disney archivist Dave Smith . . .
On Mickey Mouse:
I only hope that we never lose sight of one thingthat it was all started by a mouse.
The mouse who started it all - Mickey Mouse! He was created by Walt Disney and aired for the first time in theatres November 1928. Since his first released cartoon, Steamboat Willie, Mickey has appeared in countless other cartoons, animated features, commercials, and other Disney productions. He is Disney's main icon and symbol.
Mickey Mouse is, to me, a symbol of independence. He was a means to an end. He popped out of my mind onto a drawing pad . . . on a train ride from Manhattan to Hollywood at a time when business fortunes of my brother Roy and myself were at lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner. Born of necessity, the little fellow literally freed us of immediate worry. He provided the means for expanding our organization . . . and for extending the medium of cartoon animation toward new entertainment levels. He spelled production liberation for us.
All we ever intended for him or expected of him was that he should continue to make people everywhere chuckle with him and at him. We didnt burden him with any social symbolism, we made him no mouthpiece for frustrations or harsh satire. Mickey was simply a little personality assigned to the purposes of laughter.

"The Sorcerer's Apprentice" sequence in "Fantasia" is closer to James Whitney's alchemical renderings than the "Star Gate" sequence. After all, the sorcerer was a medieval alchemist and Mickey Mouse his helper. Walt Disney truly appreciated that part of our collective sensibility which remains open to magic. The spirit of anarchy hovers over Mickey Mouse in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," an anarchy similar to the sort unleashed by the Marx Brothers in "Duck Soup" (1933). Alas, poor Mickey loses control. He cannot harness the sorcerer's power.

6-8-97 - DREAM - I had the right eye of Minnie Mouse and was given the left eye of Mickey Mouse.
6-8-97 - DREAM - I had a female maze and was given a male maze. I knew that when they were completed, they were mated for life.

10-10--97 - DREAM - I was sent a letter by someone Joe knows and told to record it though I couldn't read it. It was all symbols - not letters, then followed by some red writing in ink at the bottom.
I was also shown an award plaque on the wall with a picture of Mickey Mouse at the top. I heard a click and the picture of Mickey Mouse changed to a Christmas tree with the lights on. I was told to record this also.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1-15-98 - DREAM - I was in the kitchen of my 66th St. house. Joe went into the bathroom which was adjacent to it and started screaming at me about how filthy and disgusting the kitchen floor was. He said, "There are bugs and mice running all over in the corners. I hadn't seen it, so I looked and he was right. It was horrible. I saw bugs and spiders and little tiny baby mice all over the corner of the floor by the stove. Then I noticed all the other trash on the floor including blankets. I swept all of it into the corner. Then I asked who was brave enough to pick it all up. We had a bed in the kitchen at this point and there was junk all over the bed too. So, we started a cleaning campaign and cleaned off the bed. A man was in the pantry and asked permission to throw away some trash from there too and I said, "Yes!"
Then we called in a "trash" woman and she came in and took away all the trash and tied the blankets in a knot with all the mice and vermin inside.
I looked then to see if all the mice and vermin were gone and they were, but I saw a little purple fish. I ran and got a little silver kettle and put water in it and we put the fish in it but it just swam right back up into the air again. then, I looked up and a whole row of purple fish were swimming in the air up by the ceiling and the front two looked like Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse and they were carrying little bouquets of yellow flowers and leading the parade and they came away from the wall and headed towards me.
5-22-02 - DREAM - I went to a large place where hundreds of people were gathered together in a cafeteria. They sat at long tables like it was going to be a banquet, it wasn't. It was a fake reason. They made everyone - who seemed to be teenagers - get up from the tables and form a line around the outside of the room and were barricaded from getting back to the table by a short metal rail fence. The young people acted like it was a game and were laughing. I didn't want to participate, so I feigned sleep by laying my head down on my arm on the table.
They handed everyone a small white paper bag, like they use in candy stores, which I knew 'they' were putting something into - whether it was candy or had a special pill in it. It seem ominous and I was not going to take one.
I was the only one not participating. Finally someone came over and asked if I was all right. I half roused myself and raised my head and said, "Yes!". At that point I actually felt like I might have fallen asleep for a few minutes.
I decided it was wiser to keep feigning sleep so I didn't have to get in that line and finally I heard someone say, "I'll have someone drive her home."
Another event occurred, which at this moment I can't recall if it was before or after this event.
I was in a room with 3 men. There was a triangular black object laying on a work table that had a jet engine in it that blew out the back end and it was running. This object was black and seemed like a triangular jet plane, but it was no bigger than a large electric guitar.
One of these men was the boss over the two other men and he pointed out that there was a series of wires that went all the way from the tip of the triangle to the jet engine and they would have to be traced to determine which wire it was to shut off the jet engine that was still roaring. He pointed out there were green, blue, yellow, and a black one. But I spotted a red one also after we got the jet engine shut down. It had been removed first and was laying on the floor at the feet of my daughter who was standing there at that point.
Not all the wires ran the length of this object - some ran crossways the object and held the other wires in place.
Tracing the wires was a difficult job and I volunteered to help. Once the wires were pulled out they had to be untangled, so I assisted by holding the green wire while they untangled the yellow and the black one from a blue one. It was rather like unwinding yarn from a hank of knitting yarn at that point. We then discovered that the green wire didn't go all the through. It was just there as an anchor to hold down the other wires. It was actually wound around the black wire at the end of it. At that point, I saw the short red wire laying on the floor which had been pulled out earlier.
I got driven home then. I don't recall the ride because I was still feigning sleep and I fumbled with the seat belt like I wasn't able to wake up enough to do that for myself either through I knew I could shake my head and bring myself wide awake if I wanted to, I decided not to for some reason.
When I got home I discovered that one of the men, who drove me home was G.H. - the electricity Master IESOUS - from other dreams. That made sense since he was the one tracing the wires in the triangular object, but I didn't realize it at the time.
G.H. drove me home and put me to bed. He got into bed with me and pulled the covers over us and I put my arm over him and went to sleep for real.
There was another man there as well, a blonde man - the other man who helped dismantle the wires from the triangular object. But another dark-haired man came in then who was evilish. He demanded that G.H. give him his Mickey Mouse watch. G.H. said he didn't have a Mickey Mouse watch. Whether he actually did or not, I don't know, but I asked the man if the watch had to be a Mickey Mouse watch, because I had a plain watch I could have given him if just needed to tell time. I noted that it was quarter to 11 a.m. at that point.
He insisted that it had to be the Mickey Mouse watch and became very irate. At that point, he was so insistent that he get this Mickey Mouse watch that he began systematically yanking drawers out of the dresser that I had there as a threat to get that watch.
He started with the bottom right drawer, and opened the drawers in sequence upward, which I grabbed from him to save the contents from being destroyed. The first drawer had unused Christmas cards in it. The second and third drawers had small clear plastic bags with tiny Christmas ornaments in them.
At that point I suggested that perhaps one of my kids had a Mickey Mouse watch in their toy box. He was satisfied wit getting a substitute Mickey Mouse watch if there was one, so I began opening some large drawers in another dresser to the right of the other one where my sons kept their toys in.
We didn't find any Mickey Mouse watch, but in the upper left-hand drawer was one of those large round fish bowls with a lot of colored sand in it and some spiral snails in the water, which came all the way to the top.
I grabbed the fish bowl out of the drawer because it didn't belong in there. On top of the dresser was a large fish tank full of water and fish. I don't know why the snails weren't in with the fish, but they were being kept separate.
A large reddish dog almost knocked into the fish tank at that point and I had to chase it out of the room.
By now, the Mickey Mouse watch episode was over and we were distracted by needing to take care of the fish tank and the snail bowl.
I knew there was a place around the corner where I could rain off the excess water in the snail bowl, so I took it outside and headed for this place to drain the water. But as I crossed the street, a bus pulled up to the curb and stopped. The bus couldn't go forward as it was blocked by some stuff in the road so it was going to have to back up and go around it. I had to walk behind the bus so I knew this was a dangerous situation. As I quickly got past the bus, an ugly old orange rusty convertible jalopy car came driving around behind the bus and came directly at me, like it was going to park right behind the bus and block it. I didn't get a good look at the people in the orange car, even though it was a convertible. I just sensed evil and ran back towards the apartment with the snail bowl.
At this point, I discovered the door to the apartment was locked and I couldn't get in. The landlord's daughter came immediately with a silver key to open the door for me. I knew I had left my silver key inside the apartment. I didn't expect the door to be locked when I got back.
The girl said they had closed the door and locked it because there was loud music coming out the door.
This puzzled me because there wasn't any music playing when I left.
At this point, I saw the other good guy sitting on a chair in the next apartment over watching TV with the door open. I gave him a little wave so he knew he should come back to the apartment I was going into.
These apartments, gauging by their placement from another apartment I had managed in Sumner, WA, would have been #13 (the manager) #14 where I now locked out of and #15 where the blonde man was watching TV.
So, the girl unlocked the door and we instantly heard loud, but beautiful classical music coming out of my apartment.
I was astonished because I saw G.H. sitting in an easy chair, with a white baseball cap on his head, listening to the stereo.
I walked over and went to kiss him, "Hello!" and the bill of his baseball cap hit me in the forehead. He apologized. I said that wasn't the first time that had happened. I was going to remark that's what caused old people to have wrinkles in their foreheads, but decided not to voice that thought.
We continued to talk about kissing and love and I said that in the past I knew when he was deliberately avoiding being with me by acting angry. He said he was going to make up for that in the future and I was appeased by that remark. I knew there was a reason for what he did because we weren't meant to be together earlier, but it would be at a later date - we were together now too.
So then, I attempted to tip the snail bowl over and get rid of the excess water and exactly what I wanted to avoid occurred - all of the sand and the snails poured out of the bowl onto the floor with the water. I immediately started scooping up sand and snails to get them back into the bowl with out killing all the snails. I knew I would probably lose some of them.
But G.H. found one of those ships that lay on the bottom of fish tanks with a tube down to it to bubble air into the water, so we quickly put that in the bowl to save some of the snails from dying.
The little girl was there helping to scoop sand back into the bowl too. and I woke up.
8-18-02 - I was working in a large office building. My boss (who I think was the Jewish Judge) had a crush on me and was always watching me. The feeling was not mutual, but I couldn't help but see him watching me.
During the lunch hour, some girlfriends and I had a hugging fest and he was watching. Even a young girl whom I didn't like much came over and we hugged.
Afterwards, I went to some singing rehearsals where some young women were trying out for a job. The boss was there and said, "It's not enough to be 'good' anymore, you have to be a Superstar!"
He then said to me, "Come with me, I have something for you!" He then handed me a huge Minnie Mouse statue about 3 1/2 feet high. Minnie Mouse was wearing a bright red dress and had huge black ears. She was holding an old fashioned telephone in her hands and she was also a lamp.
My boss said, "Let's put it on the desk in the office."
I thought we'd put it right in front of the office, but he said, "Lets put it way in the back.
My boss was still hanging onto the telephone cord and I was holding Minnie Mouse and we didn't exactly follow the same path to get to the back of this huge office. I took the center aisle and he took the far right side and he was forced to come to the center aisle as well and we had to walk on some large puzzle pieces that some people were putting together on the floor.
The boss took Minnie Mouse and set her right in the center at the back of the room and turned on her lamp and said, "She is bright enough to light up 9 football fields!"
I was truly amazed that he gave me this gift.
NOTE: A football field is 300 feet long by 160 feet wide.
Perimeter = 300 + 300 + 160 + 160 = 920 feet.
1 football field x 9 = 8280 feet.
The playing field is 48,000 square feet. x 9 = 432,000
432,000 is the length of the Kali Yuga - our time cycle.
The end zones are 30 feet each. The total is 360 or 120 yards.
The perimeter of the football field including the end zones is 360
+ 360 +160 + 160 = 1040
The perimeter of 9 football fields including the end zones =
9360
The square footage of the field including the end zones = 57,600.
SYMBOLISM
When Disney received an Oscar for his creation of Mickey Mouse in 1932 it was only the beginning. In years to come the world would experience Mickey mania. The production line quickly jumped on the bandwagon. Suddenly Mickey was in the bathroom as a toothbrush, at school as a pencil case, on the body as a t-shirt, in the kitchen on a dinner plate, on mum's apron, in the car, and on the radio. The world could not get enough. Incredibly, Mickey Mouse's symbolism had infiltrated the world to such a degree that the Allied forces used 'Mickey Mouse' as their password on D-Day! Minnie Mouse first appeared with Mickey in 1928.
Mickey Mouses favorite sayings were Oh boy!, That sure is swell!, Gosh!, Aw, gee, and See ya soon!. Walt Disney said, "Mickey was simply a little personality assigned to the purposes of laughter.
Modern positive archetypes such as Mickey Mouse, Big Bird, or Winnie-the-Pooh hold significant power and archetypal meaning. When we were children, they taught us important values through their stories and characterizations. In adulthood, their messages still urge us to adopt their principles. Mickey is a jovial character who teaches us to appreciate the Kingdom of the Magical Child. Winnie-the-Pooh shows us ways to unconditional love. Big Bird demonstrates the value of having a special friend. Each reminds us of important spiritual and human values.
Ganesha and the Mouse
Ganesha: Iconographic Symbolism
Ganesha is the representation of the Perfect Wisdom. Some of his most popular representations include these various parts:
Ears- His large ears represent the increasing listening to the teacher by the initiate. The listening is to the truths of the Upanishads. This idea is related to what we were recently introduced in class when we discussed the first stage, sravana, which the initiate has to master.
Tusks- Ganesha's trunk hangs between two tusks, representing discrimination between the worldly and spiritual domains.
Stomach- Ganesha has a big belly to stomach peacefully all experiences of life, auspicious and inauspicious.
Mouth- He has quite the large appetite.
Trunk- His trunk, extending down from the forehead of Ganesha, has an incredible efficiency and is believed to beat all achievements of man. It is able to uproot a large tree, but at the same time, it can be the means for picking up a pin from the ground or pluck a blade of grass. Man's mechanical and scientific accomplishments do not hold up to this range of adaptability. Therefore, one's intellect should be similar, in that one can use their discriminative faculties in the outer world to come to terms and ultimately resolve problems. Simultaneously, one must be able to use that power of discrimination in the subtle layers of one's inner-being and personality. Lastly, Ganesha's trunk smashes all obstacles, but he can grace you with the touch of it.
Arms- As the Lord of Obstacles, Sri Vighneswara, Ganesha is most often represented with having four arms, which symbolize the four inner equipments. In one hand, he holds an ax, which he uses to cut off the false attachments of his devotees. In the other hand, Ganesha holds a rope which he uses to pull his followers closer to the Truth and to tie them down to the Highest God. In the third hand, Ganesha holds a rice ball (modaka) which he gives as a reward to feed his devotees. His fourth hand, usually empty, extends to bless his devotees.
Mouse- Mostly all representations of Ganesha have him with a mouse at his feet. The mouse represents the desire to serve. Ganesha uses the mouse as his vehicle in the sense that it is his desire to serve the world that becomes his vehicle to move about and act.
NATIVE AMERICAN ANIMAL SYMBOLISM
"In the last few hundred years, most of the Plains Native Americans have lived by the "Medicine Wheel" belief system. There are many regional variations on the theme, but in general, it concerns the cyclic nature of things and a quest for balance in the desirable attributes of an individual. The visual representation of these things is a wheel, representing the character of the universe, with four spokes, representing the four cardinal directions. Ceremonies having to do with the medicine wheel concept are usually begun in an easterly direction, and move "sunwise" to the south, west and north, in that order. Each direction represents a number of philosophical ideals, and has a totem animal and a symbolic color for that direction.
East is the dawning of any new day or experience (and thus most ceremonies begin facing that direction). The color of the new sun is gold, and the totem animal is usually the golden eagle, representing clear vision outside ourselves. To see the outer world clearly is to have the qualities of the eagle.
In the south, where the warmth of the midday sun and the summer comes from, the representative color is green, for the growth of new parts of our experience. To Natives, who were keen observers of nature, no animal represented exploration and discovery better than the Mouse. Constantly scurrying under leaves and grasses to find new roots or berries or holes, the Mouse was the explorer, expanding a tiny world to far horizons.
The west, were the sun disappears into the edge of the world and brings the black of night, was represented by the Bear. Bear is the model of introspection, of looking within. Because the bear spends its waking hours in the dark and its sleeping hours in the depth of a den, it has ample opportunity to look at itself carefully.
Winter is the time of dormancy and renewal. The white snows come from the north, and are carried by the wolf in the woodland or the buffalo on the prairie. These animals represent knowledge and intelligence.
The four directions come together in the center, or hub, of the wheel. This is the place of balance, where a person can know many things, like the wolf, but not forget how to explore and discover new things, like the mouse. In the center, our ability to see the world clearly, like the eagle, is balanced by our ability to look within, like the bear. The center of the wheel is where we are securely tied to our Mother, the earth, and where our spirits can fly with our Father, the sky. Physically, the wheel often has tie-down cords and a feather at the hub.
CHINESE MOUSE SYMBOLISM
A cosmological symbol for the Chinese, as the mouse/rat is, like the dragon, a symbol in the Chinese zodiac, the mouse is a smaller, less-oft seen animal whose associations with Buddhism and domesticity define it as far different from a fire-breathing, majestic dragon with its imperial associations. Both works may demonstrate the importance of animals in Chinese culture and art, but the mouse is more likely indicative of the Yuan tendency to experiment with the use of new and different animals in art, while the dragon refers to the Chinese past and tradition.
More than 3,000 years ago, Chinese people invented the 10 Heavenly Stems and 12 Earthly Branches for chronological purposes. These signs are used to designate the hours, days, months and years. However, since most people at that time were illiterate, the signs were difficult to use. Later, to make things easier to memorize, people used animals to symbolize the12 Earthly Branches.In Chinese astrology, each year in succession is ruled by an animal:
A new set of circles were found in Vanderhoof, B.C. Canada 3 miles from a site where in 1998, 11 circles were discovered.
Pilot Brent Miskuski files the following report
"On the evening of September 6th. I, Brent Miskuski owner of Central Air corp. was flying home from the Vanderhoof airport where I had noticed a formation of crop circles. The site is located approx. 3 miles east from the threshold of runway 25 at the Vanderhoof airport. You will note from the pictures there has been no site contamination. I believe I am the first to discover the site. Attached please find a couple shots of the site taken approx 10:00 am September 7th./01. As you will probably remember the formations which appeared around this same time back in 1997 yielded the same findings as yesterday.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That old sorcerer has vanished
And for once has gone away!
Spirits called by him, now banished,
My commands shall soon obey.
Every step and saying
That he used, I know,
And with sprites obeying
My arts I will show.
Flow, flow onward
Stretches many
Spare not any
Water rushing,
Ever streaming fully downward
Toward the pool in current gushing.
Come, old broomstick, you are needed,
Take these rags and wrap them round you!
Long my orders you have heeded,
By my wishes now I've bound you.
Have two legs and stand,
And a head for you.
Run, and in your hand
Hold a bucket too.
Flow, flow onward
Stretches many,
Spare not any
Water rushing,
Ever streaming fully downward
Toward the pool in current gushing.
See him, toward the shore he's racing
There, he's at the stream already,
Back like lightning he is chasing,
Pouring water fast and steady.
Once again he hastens!
How the water spills,
How the water basins
Brimming full he fills!
Stop now, hear me!
Ample measure
Of your treasure
We have gotten!
Ah, I see it, dear me, dear me.
Master's word I have forgotten!
Ah, the word with which the master
Makes the broom a broom once more!
Ah, he runs and fetches faster!
Be a broomstick as before!
Ever new the torrents
That by him are fed,
Ah, a hundred currents
Pour upon my head!
No, no longer
Can I please him,
I will seize him!
That is spiteful!
My misgivings grow the stronger.
What a mien, his eyes how frightful!
Brood of hell, you're not a mortal!
Shall the entire house go under?
Over threshold over portal
Streams of water rush and thunder.
Broom accurst and mean,
Who will have his will,
Stick that you have been,
Once again stand still!
Can I never, Broom, appease you?
I will seize you,
Hold and whack you,
And your ancient wood
I'll sever,
With a whetted axe I'll crack you.
He returns, more water dragging!
Now I'll throw myself upon you!
Soon, 0 goblin, you'll be sagging.
Crash! The sharp axe has undone you.
What a good blow, truly!
There, he's split, I see.
Hope now rises newly,
And my breathing's free.
Woe betide me!
Both halves scurry
In a hurry,
Rise like towers
There beside me.
Help me, help, eternal powers!
Off they run, till wet and wetter
Hall and steps immersed are Lying.
What a flood that naught can fetter!
Lord and master, hear me crying! -
Ah, he comes excited.
Sir, my need is sore.
Spirits that I've cited
My commands ignore.
"To the lonely
Corner, broom!
Hear your doom.
As a spirit
When he wills, your master only
Calls you, then 'tis time to hear it."
